SEC releases official statement explaining penalty overturn, Texas fan reaction
AUSTIN, Texas — The SEC issued an official statement on the controversial non-penalty call in the third quarter of Georgia’s game against Texas.

CKS 100% spot-on about the precedent… in the future, the SEC needs to start flagging unsportsmanlike on the fans when these potentially dangerous shenanigans occur, especially lengthy ones like at UT 🤬
That press release from the SEC is complete BS! That officiating crew should be suspended and be barred from calling another Georgia game the rest of this season! My guess, if Georgia plays Texas in the SECCG, we'll get the same crew…
How many ways will the SEC find to screw UGA? We had to go to Bama, never mind the last time those two teams played in the regular season, that game was in Tuscaloosa, as well. Auburn cries about playing Georgia and Bama back-to-back, and when they changed the schedules, they made Georgia play in Auburn in back-to-back seasons.
If the teams had been switched on that situation, the sec office would have cried foul and vehemently denied that the refs should not have changed the call.
Even With Replay That Crew Still Couldn’t See The Touchdown Trevor Etienne Scored, And Spot The Ball At 1-Yardline. And The First Down Run By Trevor Etienne Was Clearly A First Down And Ball Spotted A Yard Back. Every **** Thing Texas Wanted From This Officiating Crew They Got.
CROOKED....Bought-off by a multibillion dollar "Sports Betting and Media Empire" and administered by CFB Politicians & Media Empire Insiders.
Lol…with that kind of money…."they" have the power to get or enforce, whatever "they" choose. Especially, with NO resistance or acceptable redress procedures....or challenge....or oversight.
Raw....unadulterated...Corruption! That's what I saw on display, in Austin, Texas this evening. Good, on Kirby Smart for calling it out. We need more coaches with backbones and bank accounts. Lol
What can anybody do about it.…if the people "most effected" and closest to the problem, are barred from talking about it, without risk of a Fine or Suspension....or, worse. Depending on how much juice the Coach has.
With Head Coaching contracts rivaling Fortune 500 CEO's....maybe, a few of the more financially well-endowed coaches could band together and give an honest...and, very public, transparent opinion....on the state of "game officiating", rules and administration of governing bodies.
I don't see how the SEC or NCAA, have the right, or authority to enforce a rule that penalizes an employee of a University...from giving a candid opinion. If that's what it is.
They must be Alabama Refs.Nothing worse than a bunch of cows crying 😂
That is a bunch of complete B S from the SEC, and EVERYONE knows it. That call didn’t go down like that AT ALL.
What a bunch of gaslighting a55hol3s over there, Sankey included.
Once the Head Referee received the call from the referee who threw the flag, he then turned his mike on and announced the pass interference. After that, the call should not be allowed to be overturned. The other refs had an opportunity to provide their two-cents worth and didn't. The refs were totally influenced by the crowd and the replay on the stadium screen. In all my years I have never seen this happen (not after the referee announces the penalty).
Hogwash! The refs were punked by the crowd.
Outrageous the precedent the SEC has set. Rabid home crowd, big game, don’t like a call. Throw things on the field, delay the game, get your call reversed. All the while, potentially endangering players, coaches, even other fans. Way to go SEC.
And you know the national outrage that would follow if the same had happened in Athens.
Pass interference is defined as when a player makes contact beyond the neutral zone and prevents an opponent from catching a legal forward pass. This includes:
The defensive player initiates contact preventing Arian from turning and catching the pass….the official got it correct but was pressured into changing his call by the other officials from the fan protest. It should have been 15 yards, 1st down then another 15 yards for the unsportsmanlike conduct of the fans…..IMHO Can't wait until this comes back and bits Sankey and the SEC in the azz when Texas morons repeat the behavior.
it’s almost like they don’t think people have TVs that record things, making them rewatchable…
Given the on-sided erroneous calls in the cows favor, including the reverse of an unreviewable call, this crew should be suspended, in the least, fired, at best.
It's time to have professional refs, not some lawyers and insurance salesmen. Time to end this part-time crap.
Totally Agree with all my fellow Dawgs fans here. Also want to throw this is in, ain’t it sort of Odd that Kirby’s headset wouldn’t work and then a little later Beck’s helmet headset wouldn’t work either ?? Hmmm. But after ALL that happened our Dawgs STILL beat the Moo Cows by 15 !!! Bwahaha !!! 🤣🤣
