SEC announces massive fine for Texas, Greg Sankey issues official statement on events
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas has officially been reprimanded for the actions of its fans on Saturday, as the SEC announced a $250,000 fine among other penalties.

The most ridculous series of events I've ever seen in football.
A $250,000 fine may sound massive for Mississippi, but who we kidding-Texas? Far better should the referees kept the ball with GA and added a fan generated unsportmanship q5 yard penalty on top of it.
Not sure how it's offensive pass interference if the defender puts his hands on the receiver first. Go back and watch it in slow motion and see who initiates first contact! You can't check the receiver 20 yards down field.
!
True, $250,000 is a drop in the bucket for UT, but I like to think of it as salt in the wound after losing such a big home game. You're #1 in the county, at home, Gameday is there, your'e picked by everyone to win, it's labeled one of the biggest games this year, record crowd, you have the officials in your pocket, and still get totally dominated….and think how bad it would have been if our offense had played well. It's great to be a Georgia Bulldog today. Also, the man hours identifying and tracking down all those people who threw stuff is going to be enormous. I wouldn't want that job and what if they don't follow through, who is going to check and make sure they're really going after these people? I wonder if anything will really come from that, there was a lot of crap on that field.
refs were so bad last night in this game. It can't be Off PI when the defensive player put his hands on the WR first That by definition is Def PI. Rewarding TX by overturning the PI from Def to Off because your fans threw crap on the field was also wrong. The officiating crew needs to be disciplined too.
A comment about the “officials” should have been included if they plan on any action against them at all.
The video review should have been enacted during the game to remove those responsible, especially those responsible for actually hitting people with the objects.
Not to mention it happened in front of a record crowd at a Texas home football game..I love it! I bet Matthew Maconahay ( or however you spell his last name) is sulking today lol it was very amusing seeing him shellshocked during the game. Was hoping they'd show him after the game, after his beloved longhorns played like a bunch of castrated bulls..
This is about like giving a millionaire a $250 fine and a strongly worded letter.
Fans identified get a tiny slap on the wrist, too, for actions which could have killed someone.
I'm not impressed with the response of the SEC officials.
Go, Dawgs!

The fines mean nothing. Texas is being punished off the field, but the on-field consequences of these ridiculous actions were immediate and massive and potentially worth far more than $250,000 to Texas if they had actually won the game. I mean, if they had won, they would have been a virtual lock for the playoffs. How much is that worth? Also, I agree with those who are asking if there will be any disciplining of the referees themselves and if so, will that be made public. At the very least, I think we all should get an explanation of why they waited until AFTER they had announced the penalty, stepped it off and marked the ball ready for play with Georgia in possession — and after the garbage parade — did they decide to discuss whether the call itself was legitimate.
So in other words, a slap on the wrist. Why not scholarship reductions and recruiting penalties to truly impact the team?
Nor can you keep the receiver from turning around to catch the ball, which is exactly what resulted from his actions!
unfortunately they will pass the penalty on to students that had nothing to do with it. So the struggling student will have to pay a larger junk athletic fee next year
