National official explains ‘unique situation’ from Georgia-Texas game
ATHENS — Georgia scored one of the biggest wins of the season and of Kirby Smart’s career at Texas, but it was not without some controversy.

Shaw offered up a big smelly crock! I suppose technically he is correct that the reversal was made before the next snap.; however, the ball had been placed down ready for play and UGA was at the line ready to snap the ball when the officials stopped play due to **** people throwing trash.
I can’t wrap my mind around that in football the SEC has the best of everything: the teams, the fans, the coaches, the quality of play, the venues, and on and on, but the worst officials that should be dressed in clown outfits rather than striped shirts!
As I stated in another forum, $250K is "chicken feed" to a well-funded program such as Texas and well worth the investment if the home team benefits in any way from a delay of game action. The officials have discretion in many areas so to determine the home team fans are actively working to delay the game should absolutely be grounds for a penalty on the home team. I feel confident that the implied threat of penalty greatly motivated Texas' coach, team, cheerleaders, etc to clean up the field and plead with the fans to stop.
Of course no one is going to admit any wrong doing. It seems the Dawgs have been getting the shaft from the SEC for years, from the lost home game with Auburn to accommodate other's schedules, losing the quality game with Oklahoma, to the blatant questionable calls at Texas. Would a game and win against OU possibly have put the Dawgs in CFP last year?
The Dawgs need to play the rest of the year with the same chip on their shoulder they played with at Texas!
Obviously the refs used a replay when they shouldn't have. Obviously the refs and talked it over and had nothing more to give because the ball was spotted. Due to the babies throwing their bottles the refs watched the replay of a non-reviewable call.
Circling the wagons! Would have more respect if a mistake was acknowledged and a statement we need to develop a way to effectively deal with this moving forward to prevent future incidents that affect player safety.
Garbage, backtracking, and gaslighting…
As long as it's "before the next snap…" Sure. Ok. Except the next snap in our case was about to go off and those officials were done with any conversations. NOOOObody was trying to talk about the call until after it started raining bottles.
The question to the problem is still not answered, only gives a blanket statement covering every offense. That would be fine, if all situations that arise are due to the same mistake..
"Fans proceeded to litter the field and cause a delay, after which, officials announced that “after discussion” there was no pass interference and Texas would get the ball at the UGA 9."
Even if it was "after discussion", it was also after the replay had been shown on the video board. The option to reverse the call should expire on a non-reviewable call once the replay has been shown regardless of it being prior to the next snap.
GO DAWGS!
Shaw is a bama grad, and is the biggest reason why bama has had all of the game winning calls or no calls, as it may be in UGA's recent championship losses to bama. I have absolutely NO use for anything he has to say on the matter.
"Shaw made it clear he was not speaking specifically to the situation at Texas -- the SEC issued a statement -- but his explanation of rules provides clarity on why things unfolded the way they did."_____DawgNation
If he's not speaking to this particular...[unprecedented situation].....THEN....his words don't matter. I could've told you everything Shaw said...in fewer words. But....when blowing smoke, it works better, with more words than necessary. Lol
The question people should be asking, is....
If not for the fans throwing projectiles on the field and at various individuals.......Would the ball have been snapped BEFORE the change was even considered? I say, YESSIR!
@GoodOlDawg
Right?! That's why teams have to call timeout or throw the Red Flag [if they have one]....to give officials time to reconsider the call.
That didn't happen. The Fans called a timeout, instead.
Therefore....everything that took place in the official's huddle after play was stopped....was inadmissible evidence and should not have been considered.
THAT...in and of itself, is a Rule Violation. But...they did it anyway, cause they were afraid. They can go ahead and admit it...we all know. Lol
Here’s my response to Shaw: BS!!! I have never seen a non-reviewable call reversed after the penalty is announced, marked off, the ball placed, and ball indicated to be in play. What’s wrong with these people? Can’t they simply say “We blew it.” The more they attempt to tell us nothing wrong was done the more we know they’re not being honest.
L A M E!!!
No review after a delay of game. No changes after a delay. A delay = everything (fan disruptions, injury, etc.).
Please fix this multiple areas to post thing!!!
