Final grades from Georgia’s 28-10 loss to Ole Miss
OXFORD, Ms. — There was little doubt about who was the better team on Saturday between Georgia and Ole Miss. The 28-10 margin of victory could actually be considered kind for Georgia, given how it played.

really only 2 grades needed. O line F affected all offensive position groups.
On Defense, the secondary was a D. If they had better coverage, all other groups would have looked better. Game over, the Vols are next. GO DAWGS!!
Connor, I think you were pretty fair in giving the Dawgs their lowest overall grade of the season. However, after getting torched on the Rebel's second series by a freshman QB (went 5 for 6) and easily scoring their first TD, I would give the secondary a C-. And then the hobbled Dart came in and took over. He couldn't even be a running threat, but it did little to stop the Rebels from outscoring the Dawgs.
It was a pathetic offensive performance, and the defense didn't play much better overall. We were out-coached, out-schemed, and out-executed on both sides of the ball. Sure, injuries played a part….a small part. But they are no excuse for that kind of performance yesterday. You'd think at this point in the season that this team would be getting better - not worse - but I guess that's the way this season is going to go.
BUT, the biggest punch in the face yesterday was handed out by Carson Beck who was seen laughing and smiling sitting on the sidelines in Q4. Really? He should have been angry, upset, and rallying his troops. Instead, he's just sitting back there mostly by himself. I think he's given up since his (3) goals this year have been shattered (Win Heisman, Win Natty, and get picked in the First Round of the draft).
The Dawgs can no longer hide behind an easier slate of SEC opponents like they have in the past playing in the SEC East. From now on, every year will be a tougher slate of games. Think about this: We have lost both our games to former SEC West teams. Better get used to it Kirby.
The Rebels defense was formidable and Lane's use of the portal finally paid off.
Gotta lick our wounds and get ready for the Vols. No need to think about the playoffs at this point. We'll be lucky to make it, and something tells me it will be a one-and-done experience if we do.
”KJ Bolden was the closet man”
Closest Konner…
As usual, a D- for writing skills.
At least for this year, we have fallen into the ranks of the also-rans. Unfortunately, our offense has been very consistent, and I don't think it will this year ever grade at even a B level.
Your Spot On Brother !! I have Zero, Nada, Zilch, Nothing personal against Carson Beck but my big fear is he’ll come back next year and out of ( To Much) Loyalty Kirby will let him. Carson simply doesn’t have IT for SEC caliber play.
A Great QB will make a so-so Offense look Very good. We Know that Carson doesn’t have a great tool box as he Did last year. But a Great QB can and will over come those obstacles.
My fellow Dawgs fans are probably sick of hearing me say this, but a bad air of Complacency has wormed its way into the Dawgs football program. Kirby Needs to Fire & Demote some people.
He Also needs to be Much More aggressive using the TP. The portal is here now and it’s gonna stay, Use it or Lose it ( games) to other teams. Head Coaches will now Have to mix and match HS recruits in with TP transfers from Year to Year. It is what it is. Go Dawgs !!
While I have this thought in my greatly diminished brain Lol. I want to wish ALL our Veterans and Active Duty, Reserves, National Guard, Air Guard a Very Happy Veterans Day !! THANK YOU ALL for your Dedicated and Honorable Service !! May richly Bless you and your families in ways that are eternal !!
@navydawg…yes, for some players and maybe even the entire program, that feeling of complacency, and certainly Beck has that feeling of entitlement. And maybe even a what-has-worked-in-the-past-should-work-now kind of feeling that might be playing out. I do think the use of the portal hasn't benefitted us much at all except for Etienne. He is the one exception. More use of the portal going forward will probably be necessary, but with more parity and more teams getting better, it may only help so much.
I don't want to keep knocking on Bobo and the assistant coaches. I've been guilty of that before. I'm not a coach, so unless it is a blatant bad coaching decision that even I can recognize, then I'll try to just leave it up to Kirby to make any changes that might be necessary in that regard. The only thing I will say is that yesterday the offensive game plan seemed pretty vanilla and not very creative. Of course, guys dropping balls didn't help the situation.
With 20 seconds left in the first half Georgia gets a stop pinning Ole Miss deep in their territory. Kirby calls a timeout to preserve the clock. So what was the thinking then? Ole Miss is punting from their own endzone. If we sit back we get the ball and maybe a shot downfield. Really don't understand why we didn't try to go after the punt. We hear this talk about generating turnovers and momentum. But with the offense sputtering again we just line up and fall back. Maybe it just me but seems we missed an opportunity.
My opinion, and mine only, Lane Kiffin out coached Kirby Smart. I hope that Kifby takes a look at his staff when the season is over. I realize also that he is way more qualified to make that assessment than I am. But some of the positions have taken steps backwards this year. The offensive line has looked outmatched at times, out of position and lost. Stacey Searles was not that effective when he was here with Richt. The receivers haven't dropped this many passes since James Coley was the coach earlier in Kirby's years. The secondary has taken drastic steps back all year long. Even Starks has looked bad at times. Opposing receivers are running open all over the field in every game. This is on coaching.
Agree. The scariest thing for me in this particular moment is Kirby seems to be in utter denial. He keeps talking about getting better. How do you do that when coaches and players don’t seem to be willing to invest Enough into getting better ??
For the future Carson Beck coming back is scary. Let’s face it Bowers, McConkey, JackSaint and great RBs made Beck look much better than he really is. As I said earlier a Great QB can make a so-so Offense look pretty good, maybe not great but pretty good. The Dawgs Offense is not very good at all.
Now our Defense is slipping. Kirby better face the realities and Soon !! A True Leader has to have the guts to set aside friendships and Fire and Demote under performers for the sake of The Team.
During the second and third quarters of the game yesterday, I felt like I was watching a replay of the bowl game versus UCF back in 2010(or 2009, whichever year it was).
I couldn’t believe my eyes during that game back then, and I am still having difficulty understanding what I watched yesterday.
The reason for that is because my expectations are so high for our Dawgs, but the reality is that they are the team we saw against Kentucky more than the team we saw against Clemson and at Texas.
🤷♂️
Agree. We rare to ever come after the punter Even in ideal situations like you just described. Like you I don’t get it. I thought that Kirby preaches turn overs !! EVEN if we had roughed the punter in the process they would still be deep. Head scratcher on that.
Yep roughing the punter would have met they keep the ball for a few more seconds. But if we block it and recover who knows? Could have been a game changer.
Like I stated last night in my comments, Conor, that you should resign if every aspect didn’t get a big fat F. I still stand by that and even more now that you didn’t give Beck an F?!?!?! Are you kidding me and everyone that reads the articles on Dawg Nation? I bet the writers at the Red & Black will give worse grades than you did. Only the kicker and punter did their job last night. NO ONE ELSE DID!!!!!!!!!
giving all aspects an F is the only grade.
In watching the body language of the players, no one wanted to be there. They embarrassed previous teams with their lack of effort.
also, I am not a multimillion dollar coach and I know Kirby is and surely he sees how bad our offense sux. In thinking back on our worst offenses, Brian Schott, Mike Bobo, and James Coker are the names I go to. But some how here we are rocking it with 2 of the 3. 😂
There has to be change!
the biggest problems facing this team can be traced back to one issue…. Lack of leadership. Unfortunately you can’t fix lack of leadership in a week.
and for those who say dawg fans are entitled, I say you are conceding what the standard is. We have been preached at for 8 years what the standard is. I ask you, apart from two games has the standard been upheld?
all that said, I hope the dawgs beat the orange outta Tennessee Saturday night.
