Jake Pope issues statement on viral video of him celebrating following Georgia loss to Ole Miss
ATHENS — Georgia safety Jake Pope has put out a statement on his social media after video of him celebrating on the field went viral following Georgia’s loss to Ole Miss.

Since none of us really knows the true context of that moment I vote we give Jake the “benefit of the doubt” and let it go. We’ve got bigger issues next Saturday. Go Dawgs and pound the Vols!!!
If Georgia had played better and won the game, the Ole Miss folks wouldn't been on the field.
I rather prefer…."Idiotic Mistake", caught up in the moment Jake choose his old friends over his brothers….I believe he has learned a valuable lesson and totally agree with BubbaBill, move on and focus on the game that will tell the tale on The Dawg 2024 season….beat The Vols, The Minutemen, and The North Ave Bumblebees and the play offs await.
This “idiots” apology only makes this entire thing, that will mean nothing by tomorrow, worse.
His apology is gaslighting the way I read it- “It was taken out of perspective”?
Dude, seriously? You are on the playing field of an opponent that just embarrassed and whooped the team that you are on, you have not made it to the locker room yet, and less than 5 minutes has transpired since the game ended that your team played and lost miserably in.
What perspective are we Dawg fans, or any sports fan, supposed to look at this through?
I do not care if my long lost BFF from 8th grade came BARRELING across that field and tackled me, I would have somberly told them that it was great to see them, but I need to get into the locker room and maybe catch them later on and we can catch up?
Coach Smart said it 100% spot on, with NO fluff and no filter (like the new POTUS elect!!!), Pope looked and acted like a complete and utter IDIOT.
💯 🤷♂️
Actually, this worries me very, very little… even as dumb as it was. It's a sign of the times with this team. What does worry me (and Lisa)? The photo below, taken during the second half of the Ole Miss game. It is 100% indicative of the leadership issue UGA has at its #1 role for on-field generalship, QB1.
I was not going to post this at all, and posting it now will seem "sour grapes" given the Ole Miss loss, but Lisa and I have felt this way for over a month: for the first time in over 30 years of watching Dawgs football, neither of us can stomach watching this team play and it's 100% due to Carson's poor leadership behaviors. Win or lose, watching his complete lack of respect for the mantle of leader of this historically world-class group of athletes is gut-wrenching.
Even watching the wins, including the biggest like Texas and Clemson, is difficult if, like us, you watch the players' behavior when they're not on the field. While it starts with CB, it's not much better elsewhere. Who is stepping up in his place (given he either can't or won't) to fire up the team… either to turn things around or to keep them motivated once ahead on the scoreboard? As far as players… no one I can see. If you look back at the replays, it's mostly Kirby and a few of his coaches.
Where is the next SBIV, Jordan Davis, Roquan Smith, Nakobe Dean, or even JDJ to energize their brothers? That sound you hear while you're waiting for an answer is crickets… it's nobody. Not that they're not there, it's just that watching your QB1 say for the 100th time "it is what it is" has now infected the rest of the team, IMHO
Kirby can say what he wants. It's his job to be optimistic and build up his players. But there can be no denying it now: CB is not a leader and never will be… to quote a poster of the below photo on X "dude don't gaf"… possibly harsh, but not far off.
Watch what people do vs what they say. CB has shown us who he is, so let's believe him. I've spent decades planning my Saturdays in September-November around one thing (even when Georgia was performing miserably some years): watching UGA football. While we will ALWAYS be pulling hard for the Dawgs, we've decided to take some Saturdays off or maybe watch a recording after the fact for some of the rest of the season… it's too soul-crushing to watch a QB1 that appears to care less about the outcome than we do :\
We needed a good distraction from our current reality, so there's that
He ain't the first to greet friends & family joyfully, after a loss. But, with cameras everywhere and the internet, just a click away.....this batch of kids today, have to be mindful that "somebody's always watching and willing to exploit".
Pictures don't tell the whole story or add context. It requires a caption. That's why it was idiotic. I'd bet he was warned about that,....which is why Kirby was so brutally honest. Lol....kids! smh
this bench warmer has ZERO Commitment to the G. It’s a problem that NIL and instant transfers have brought.
Dis he call his own player an idiot?
'Did'
What offends me more is Beck's lack of leadership and the image of his laughing during a bad loss just sitting on the bench. He should have had his head in a tablet studying the next series of plays and how to go out and win the game for the people that have given him the fame and recognition. He is just a totally self absorbed immature individual. I believe this will not go unnoticed in the NFL draft rooms and I hope they see right through him.
How many of you know men that jump up and down like a teenage girl when they see a friend? SMH. Part of recruiting should be an IQ test. The NFL has the Wonderlic test. CFB needs something.
I LOVE the Dawgs. Have listened to them on the radio and watched them on TV most of my going on 68 years. But for Me it’s God first, Family second then every thing else.
He said this was Family and Close Friends he hadn’t seen in a long time. IF he was telling the truth, I can certainly understand him being excited to see them. And people taking vids and pics might not realize his relationship to them. This is much ado about nothing imho.
It would be interesting to know why more people aren't more worried about this than what Pope did. Seems as if Beck's attitude has wormed it's way into almost the entire Dawg Nation.
Is that what he did? Lol. He jumped up & down?!!. I didn't see it. I just assumed it was a normal smile, handshake and hug to family and friends. Whatever.
It's silly to get bent over this, considering all the real issues UGA has to deal with, right now. No need in looking for extra crap to get mad about.
But....I will remember it in the offseason. Lol....I bet Kirby does too.
