Why Georgia would be better off facing Texas instead of Texas A&M in SEC Championship Game
ATHENS — Georgia would be better off facing Texas than Texas A&M in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 7.

Just win, Dawgs!
I disagree. Georgia would have a better chance of beating A&M than having to beat TX twice. A&M will put everything they have in beating the cows and probably won’t have anything left for the SEC title game. Based on what we’ve seen so far from this so called playoff committee, there’s absolutely no guarantee Georgia gets in with a close loss in the title game. Win out!
Go Dawgs! Wreck tech!
Mike, I understand what you are saying, but I'd definitely rather see us playing A&M than Texas for the exact same reasons @David1 said below. I think Texas has the advantage if we play them again, and I think the Aggies are one of the most overrated teams in the SEC. It may make more sense to play Texas and possibly lose, but I don't trust the CFP Committee to do the right thing if we end up with 3 losses. I think our best chance for a win is through A%M.
Mike, You just can’t stop yourself feeding us rat poison and providing the other team bulletin materials.
I totally disagree-"Another factor to consider is human nature". After losing to us one time, they are going to be fired up to kick our butt. Motivation goes a long way when you have a group of 19,20,and 21 year olds. I think it would be very difficult to beat the Longhorns again-just sayin.
I've seen the "prediction" that shows Texas as SEC winner and us playing Indiana in the 1st round of the playoffs. I would LOVE to believe that should we lose that will happen. Certainly, I would expect Texas to be a 7 pt favorite or so in a rematch as rematches of this type often go in the opposite way as the losing humiliated team "gets revenge" and the winner is overconfident.
We will find out tonight if there are any surprises but so far the Committee has made it clear that it doesn't really respect Georgia nor it's "body of work". Remember, they placed Georgia at #10 when both other polls had Georgia at #8 and they pushed Miami up 3 spots. They may only drop Indiana a few spots despite getting their butts kicked.
Don't forget, last year Georgia was the undisputed #1 team and then when we lost to Bama, they knocked us out of the 4 team playoffs. We wound up 3rd in the Coaches poll (4th in AP) and didn't even get a chance to play a real team with real consequences (Florida State was too busy whining and complaining).
I have to assume that a loss in the SEC Championship game (even a last minute FG difference) will knock us out even if we are one of the stronger teams there. I'll be rooting for A&M to pull out a win.
Mike, It is hard to beat the same team twice in one season. Texas will make adjustments both offensively and defensively based on how the game played out in October. Personally, given the new landscape of college football and the expanded playoffs why is there a need for an SEC championship or conference championship games in general anyway. Those game have outlived their usefulness. It made sense when the conferences went to divisional play, the BCS and then the four team playoff, but now it's just another opportunity to get banged up before a possible four game championship run.
I tend to agree that A&M would be our easier game. Assuming we beat GT this Friday I think a loss in SEC CG does not necessarily bump us out of the playoffs since we would be the SEC runner-up. Also, would a 3 loss UGA be behind a 2 loss Texas that lost to UGA? Would a 3 loss UGA get bumped by a 2 loss Tennessee that lost to UGA? Wow, this could get interesting if we lose so let’s just WIN and make it a moot point. Also, we have an advantage that we haven’t had in past years. We know 7 days before Texas and Texas A&M that we are going to be in the CG so buy all the tickets available ASAP before those guys out west have a shot at them. Go Dawgs!!!
what if Tex wants a guaranteed bye week? Lose to AM and you get a week off to heal and prepare for the stretch run. Play in the SEC championship and you risk injuries and the possibility of having to play that extra game. Kiffin was right. Well except for the bragging rights and the trophy from ATL.
MG did not go where I thought he would go in this article. He made some good points (losing to a higher ranked team better) but not the one I thought he would make.
Even though TX has not beaten anyone of note this season, TX is the overall deeper (better?) team. BUT aTm has, maybe, the best DL in the country. Good DL's have given UGA trouble this season. Ole Miss. UGA's OL has been inconsistent if not shaky. CBeck has not been effective when under duress. Beck will be under duress vs aTm more so than vs TX.
THAT is why TX may be the better match up for UGA. MG also failed to mention UGA's problems with running QB's (Marcel Reed, aTm) . But that is another story.
Confucius say…..It is hard to beat same team twice in one season.
If UGA loses, the committee will toss the dawgs out with glee. They need to win. A&M should be easier to beat.
@georgiajeepn2019..I've heard, and read the media say exactly that, more times than I can remember, and it's the truth!
Everyone needs to quit fearing the shorthorns. They are just not that good. They have feasted on unranked teams. If they had to go to the Swamp this week they would lose. The Dawgs have turned a corner. The defense is getting the same treatment from Kirby this week that the offense got from Kirby before the Tennessee game. Dawgs are in good shape with injured players returning. Relax and enjoy the ride.
