Kirby Smart evaluates Georgia backup quarterbacks as regular season concludes
ATHENS — At this point, there should be little doubt about who Georgia’s backup quarterback is.

THe only pass that cannot be caught is the overthrown pass.
Beck's NFL decision will come down to evaluating this year's draft class versus next year's. He definitely has room to improve his draft stock, and if this year‘s class is strong compared to next year's expected class, he might very well contemplate another year in college. If my math is right, he actually has two years of eligibility left (redshirt and COVID year).
If Beck comes back ( NOT saying that’s a bad thing) Gunner will probably hit the TP. I’ve criticized Beck on here pretty harshly and often, But when he’s tuned in he’s a very good QB with the potential to be a great QB.
And I have no clue Why he has the “ tuned out” moments but when he has them he stinks pretty bad. So I guess the best thing he needs is Consistency. If he gets that And continues to improve he could be a really great QB.
I wouldn’t be shocked if he came back next year. His over all tape for this year taken as a whole is only average maybe even less, as viewed by people outside of the program. If Beck leaves then I think Gunner is the man unless one of the other guys Clearly outshines him.
If Gunner looks at what happened with BVG and his move to KY he Might decide to stay at UGA, Even if Beck comes back. He could play as a Graduate Student continuing to take college courses correct ?? As I’ve stated before I have a favorable bias for Gunner, I want him to Stay and Play !! BUT I’m a Team First guy, whichever QB gives the Dawgs the best opportunity to win has my full support. Go Dawgs !!
Gunner should have played more
The only edge Gunner has over Rashada is time in the UGA uniform. As far as experience Gunner does not have more than Rashada. As far as who (in my opinion) is the better quarterback it's Rashada. And that is based on the scouting report coming out of high school. Rashada will never throw a pass in the UGA uniform.
One of the QBs will portal, not close enough to know who. Doubt Carson will return. He could if his stock is low. If he does, two QBs will portal. UGA could end up thin again. Better recruit hard at QB, Kirby. Georgia gets okay QBs, just not many standouts when they hit the college scene. Stetson was a an exception of late.
But Gunner Does have more experience with the UGA playbook. And Rashada has never thrown a pass at UGA. Gunner did last year ( especially in the bowl game vs FSU) though not much this year.
Kirby did say Rashada is learning fast. Gunner was a high 4 star out of a small HS. All this I don’t have a thing in the world against Rashada. If he stays and out plays Gunner and Pugs to win the starting spot I would Fully and Completely support him.
But I do think Gunner has more than just time in an UGA uniform over those two. In practices there have been times when over his Three years here Gunner got snaps with the ones. All that stuff matters. We got receivers through the TP from other schools that had starting experience at those schools but they didn’t play past Dillon Bell and Lovett who was here last year.
Just my opinions. I have no problems with Rashada if he becomes The Man per the coaches that’s fine with me. I was just saying I wouldn’t be to quick to dismiss Gunner. Go Dawgs !!
If Beck comes back it might be GoodBye to both Gunner and Rashada. And as UGA66 said we’d be thin at QB again.
No matter what happens the rest of this season, I think it's time for Beck to move on. He's had his time in the spotlight. There is no guarantee that if he returned, he would improve his draft stock all that much. In fact, I would contend he'd be better served to close out this year on a strong note. For better or worse, I'm ready to see what some other QB could do, and I don't care if that's Stockton or any of the other guys currently on the roster, or even someone brand new. Go Dawgs!
