Kirby Smart stands behind analytics that led to early 2-point conversion against Georgia Tech
ATHENS — Georgia ended up having to run eight 2-point conversion plays in the 44-42 win over Georgia Tech. The game went into eight overtimes, making it the longest game involving an SEC team.

Bad decision. We won but we kick the PAT and win in regulation. Gotta admit I quit late in the 4th when they went up 14 and I went to bed. Shocked at the outcome. Go dawgs.
Well, it definitely wouldn’t be 28-27 because Ga-tech will definitely try the 2pc. If it were to be successful, it would be 28-28. If not, we’ll probably try ours, so it will be 27-26 or 29-26.
no one went to bed at our house, hard fought game with a little bit of everything. King is a gamer, fighter and a leader. Tech outplayed us but Dawgs found a way to win it
Tired of the struggle wins. I know enjoy a win anyway you can get it but how they are winning is what hurts. It’s like they do t care until it’s almost too late then turn it on and dominate.
did anyone else notice Kirby taking over the defense after that last Haynes king drive?
Schumann is a liability
"Analytics" should go out the window when you assess the tone and tenor of the game… which at that time was Georgia gettting it's tail kicked all over the field, and desperately needing points— ANY points— to somehow try to change the momentum… instead of very predictably coming up way short on the conversion, thereby turning momentum right back over to Tech. Given all the existing circumstances (i.e., throwing analytics out the window), I thought it was a horrible idea before the attempt, and still do. Go Dawgs!
Another thing I have an opinion on that some have chimed in on: All the practice time and film time these players have with these coaches, I was appalled to see the lack of creativity and bag of goodies the Dawgs had practiced or options seeing as they showed us 9 separate 2 point conversion plays. And to only complete 2 of them 🤯
I thought that was pretty sub-par for a recent back to back national champion teams “standards”.
Yes, the Bugs had some to do with that, but it looks to me like Bobo and his large team of “analysts” are not earning their money.
we all are mystified at times at some of our play calls and our propensity to suffer the first half beat-downs. We again picked up play at the needed time to squeak out a win. Had we played with that sort of enthusiasm for the whole game, we might not have shaken our heads and wrung our hands so much.
Obviously a big win! Hopefully with few or no injuries. Should we play after Christmas, I hope Santa will bring some super glue to eradicate one of our big drawbacks.
Analytics. Did I miss it? Has Kirby used that to this degree before this game?
I think Kirby must have been trying to jumpstart some momentum by making an 8-point score. A friend of mine was at the game, and he said he was disappointed by the home crowd's participation. Maybe Kirby was also trying to jumpstart the home fans as well.
No matter how many times I hear about analytics, it was a ridiculous call. Still needed 2 more possessions regardless and judging by the quality of that call, it appears even more ridiculous.
Bottom line, Dawgs got outcoached and outplayed and had enough grit to hang around and absolutely earn the win.
Here is my "analytic". As long as Brent Key is head coach of the Jackets, COFH is back!
Analytics can be helpful but in that situation not so much. Your team finally scored after playing dismal for over half a game. You want to build more momentum so you go kick the extra point then lean on your defense to get a stop. Going for two and flopping took away some of that intensity.
Buster Faulkner made this game what it was. Somebody who really plays major college football better grab him up as their OC!
Analytics be damned. Even if you score 2 TDs and make (2) 2 point conversions, you are still done. It makes zero sense to go for 2. If we had just kicked the XP, there would have been zero need for OT because we would have won by 1.
