Social media reacts to Justus Terry decision, how Georgia football signing class finishes
ATHENS — Another recruiting cycle, another top signing class for Kirby Smart and the Georgia football program.

So, where did we finish so far?
UGA signed the #1 DT, #1 Edge and #1 linebacker so let the Horns have a #3 DL. This guy is the second coming of Isaiah Crowell so let it go and enjoy the great players we got……and they all want to stay home. Go Dawgs and “horns down”!!!
I guess where we finish in recruiting is a brag point but I prefer the where we finish as something to pound the chest about.
Money has ruined college football.
Having reviewed several times the highlights of his senior season, I believe the very best recruit we have received this year is Hezekiah Millender-Hale, a 3 star QB who transferred from Arizona to have the opportunity to be seen by SEC coaches at Athens' Clarke Central. I predict that he will well make-up for any loss to our team by the decision of Justus Terry.
Relationships are important, but money is now a leading factor when making hard decisions between schools. I think this is especially true when the career lifespan of a college-turning-pro athlete is getting shorter. These elite guys have got to bring in the money while they can, and that career is averaging less than 10 years in the pros. Guys are getting stronger, bigger, faster, and it is creating more injuries and shorter football careers.
I still love college football, but money has seriously blurred the lines between college and pro. There are little differences between college and pro now other than the fine print of the contracts and obligations between parties. THAT is where things need to be fine tuned when it comes to college players committing, signing, de-committing, opting out of bowl games, and transferring. But, I don't think the NCAA has got the balls to step in and put up some guardrails. And even if they did, the courts may certainly take them down.
The #1 recruit in the country this year committed to Michigan - 5-star QB Bryce Underwood - and is projected to make at least $10-15M+ in marketing, merchandising, and direct monies by the end of his short 3-year college career. Not bad.
Like it or not, this is now the world of college football. Relationships do matter…as long as they can bring in the Championships.
Kirby Smart has said many times if they don't want to be here we ain't gonna chase after them! JT made his choice and now we let him go and talk about OUR guys!
I just noticed that we have landed at the #3 recruiting class in all the services other than 1 where we are #4. It’s interesting to note that Rivals has a new “comprehensive” ranking system and we still have the #1 class according to those folks. It’s difficult to understand their scoring of recruits, but it looks like they only rank the teams according to the top 25 players along with a bunch of other markers. Bottom line is we have a really good class and filled some major holes like the DL and WRs. Go Dawgs!!!
Just want to point out that a 275 pound under tackle like Terry is a better fit for the Texas 4-2-5 one gap scheme than he is for UGA's 3-4 two game scheme. At Texas he gets on the field almost immediately and be essentially the same player that he was in high school. At UGA he either A) moves to DE, which requires learning both a new technique AND a new position or B) plays RDT, which means learning a new technique AND putting on at least 20 lbs.
Some of you older UGA fans might remember a 5 star DT from Valdosta who committed to UGA when UGA was running a 4-3. (His dad wanted him to go to FSU and was upset.) The scheme change was not in his interests. Had to go from 1 gap to 2 gap, was too small to be a 3-4 DT in the SEC (in the ACC, Big 12 or Pac-12 he would have been fine). Grantham tried moving him around but he wasn't quick or athletic enough to play OLB or DE. He stayed at UGA for the full 4 years and got his degree but was regarded as a bust, oft-criticized by UGA fans during his entire time in Athens.
Moral of the story: scheme matters. Picking the right college one can mean the difference between a 10 year NFL career and spending your entire time in college as a backup. (Which they are increasingly less likely to allow in this era, especially at title contenders, as upperclassmen who aren't major contributors are "encouraged" to hit the portal.)
Well that was fast.
To be blunt, I want Georgia to summarily knock that big chip off the shoulder of the Texas cows. That team needs to be humbled. UGA is the team to get that job done and in a big way. Kirby knows what he has to do….DO IT!
When are they going to get this site fixed? This is ridiculous.
While what you stated Is accurate and truthful, Allot of these kids maybe even most of these kids don’t look at the long term future. They look at the Right here and Right now, which is $$$.
Even some of the “experts” on social media are saying he went for the $$. More than apt the TX boosters simply outbid the UGA boosters. With no sarcasm but I think a hard reality had UGA offered significantly more $$$ he’d be in red & black !!
Another hard reality is these kids Patents and/or significant others many times Push Them for the short term highest amount. They don’t look as deep as you have. Your thinking is good and right but Sadly it’s not as applicable in the minds of these kids in today’s world of NIL.
These days NIL and the TP have made the word Loyalty just that, a word. You know Really they guys that deserve allot of our admiration and respect are the ones that Turn Down paid scholarships to schools like Ga.Southern, Ga. State, Appalachian St. UAB, etc. etc. to come to UGA as a walk-on with No promise of a scholarship, so they can be assigned to the scout teams as tackling dummies for the Ones and Twos to practice on ( notice I didn’t say against).
We don’t hear about Their injuries very much because their not considered important. That’s why I Love when a guy Works his way up to earn playing time And a scholarship !! There are countless schools out there that Education wise would be pretty decent for these guys to attend on a Paid scholarship. Yet they Love the Dawgs so much their willing to come here with no promise of getting a scholarship.
I don’t know the real numbers, but I bet it’s as high as ( over four years) only one out of every hundred being promoted to a scholarship And making maybe the number Two team. To work their way into the Ones is actually pretty Incredible when we think about it !! Go Dawgs !!
