Georgia football running game will need to be a factor amid quarterback uncertainty
ATHENS — When Gunner Stockton entered the game as Georgia’s quarterback in the second half against Texas, things looked pretty bleak for the Bulldogs.

Just make good decisions Gunner
Well, the running game heavily depends on the offensive line blocking game, and that line needs to markedly step up its performance. Vastly under-performing since Searels took over.
No mention of R Rob in this piece. He has played a few snaps recently and I hope the next few weeks off he can continue to rehab and be ready for the playoff run. He brings a completely different dynamic to the running game. If he is fully healthy, UGA can bring a strong 3 headed ground game Dawg fans are use to. Of Kirby's teams, the Dawgs were toughest with Chubb, Michel and Swift and then Cook, White and Macintosh. If Gunner can make a few downfield passes and the O line perform at their best, this offense could be tough to beat. Long drives, ball control and time of possession will be needed against the other playoff contenders. Go Dawgs!
Connor, I think you’re being extremely remiss when you exclude Nate Frazier’s name when you say “it falls on Etienne” and the offensive line if we are to run the ball. Have you even been watching games this year? Poor writing. Sure hope Nate’s not reading this. Go Dawgs!
BINGO!……"Many have suggested that offensive coordinator Mike Bobo take a page out of Buster Faulkner’s playbook as use Stockton as the Yellow Jackets use Haynes King. The Georgia Tech quarterback torched Georgia, rushing for 110 yards and throwing for 303 in the loss to Georgia." At best Carson will play sparingly, the job of "Field Commander" falls squarely on Gunner Stockton……Gunner is Haynes King to the second power…..wicked rushing ability as well as a skilled passer. Rest assured that Mike has picked the brain of Buster Faulkner….especially since it's almost a sure thing that Notre Dame will be our first opponent, where we will need to ""stretch" the field with a balanced attach QB & RB rushing, Passing to WR's, TE's and RB's and great special teams play. The Key will be Gunner and his ability to fire up the TEAM and Fans….after all ESPN sez we are the under DAWGS against the mighty Viirgin.
Chicken Little, the sky is falling, NOT. Gunner Stockton's been in this program, he has the confidence and support of his teammates, he's got the heart of a winner. Time to turn the page, mark my words, he will be more successful than Carson Beck. A smarter more skilled version of Stetson Bennett. He will get exponentially better with each game he plays and the defense knows they have to have his back early. Looking for good things from this team of Dawgs in the playoffs, they're gelling at the right time….
Everyone knows now with BEck out they will have to step up their game and play their tails off, whereas before it seems at times the offense was in some type of malaise until it was apparent the game was going to slip away from them and someone rang the alarm. Like they were in some hypnotic trance and in the 3rd quarter the hypnotist(whoever that is) would snap his fingers and they would wake up and perform like a UGA team.
I blame ,not all, but a lot of that on Bobo. He's the one who scripts the 1st several plays of each game. He's the one who pours over the film of opposing teams to determine how best to sore on them. He's the one who implements the plays he has come up with. ANd he's the one who coaches the offense up!
He has very good to sometimes great players to work with. He's not working with kids who are not used to playing at a high level. And yet over the past 2 seasons we have played 11 games(over 40%) where we can't score more than 10 points by halftime! I understand we have dropped a few balls this season, but every team has drops. Go back and look at how many drops Texas had in the two games we played them.
For some inexplicable reason coaches get the credit when the team performs well and the players get the blame when they don't perform well. (You want ever see a Conner Riley article about the coache's Stock up or Stock down). As a manager of a company or CEO that would be the ticket wouldn't it? You get the credit when the company does well and if it doesn't it's the workers fault.
At some point, when does 7 games this season where cumulatively we averaged 4.8 points for the 1st half fall into CMB's lap?
HIS saving grace is we only lost two of those games this sesaon. And 3 out of the 11 over the past 2 seasons. THank goodness for having players good enough to overcome those horrific starts.
Most teams don't come back and win when down by 2 scores at half time. Obviously we're not most teams.
ASk yourself how many times over the past 2 seasons have you watched the 1st half of a UGA game and said to yourself ****? What is going on? I know I'm not the only one. GO DAWGS!
Hopefully Georgia's opponent prepares overwhelmingly for that, still cannot stop it, and just as importantly (and as a result of said lopsided prep) Gunner slings it all over the place with great effect. As we all know, the success of the running and passing games is intertwined… they both need to be a real threat or they'll both likely not be enough to win at this stage. Go Dawgs!

"He has very good to sometimes great players to work with. "
No, he doesn't. That is just something that people who never wanted the Mike Bobo hire because they associated him with the shortcomings of the Mark Richt era claim. Mike Bobo isn't the reason why UGA's WRs lead the nation in drops, or that they can't get separation, make plays on 50/50 balls downfield or get yards after the catch. (Very good to great players, right.) Mike Bobo isn't the reason why UGA hasn't had a difference-making RB who can stay healthy for the entire season since D'Andre Swift left in 2019. Mike Bobo isn't the reason why last season UGA resorted to moving Dillon Bell to RB and playing walkons at WR (since transferred to Houston) and RB (still at UGA and has to get on the field on passing downs). Mike Bobo isn't the reason why UGA's best RB, when he can stay healthy, couldn't even win the starting job at 7 loss Florida Gators teams.
Face reality: The RB and WR recruiting have taken huge hits at UGA the past few years. I have explained why: elite WRs didn't want to play with Fromm and neither elite WRs or RBs wanted anything to do with that Monken offense with Stetson Bennett IV. Anyone who follows UGA recruiting has seen this in motion for the last few years. The comments on Dawgnation has been to the effect of "those guys are prima donnas who are only concerned about stats and the NFL and not about sacrificing like true Dawgs … who needs 'em." Ever since last year, you've seen the answer to that question. Yes, Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey were hurt during the SECCG, but that was because Kirby Smart rushed them back on the field before they were fully healthy to play Tennessee because he had no confidence in the guys behind them. Well UGA has played all year with the guys behind those two and you see why. The only one who gives UGA confidence for next year is Nate Frazier, and even he still needs to show the ability to make long runs against good defenses.
I keep reminding people that Monken was the coordinator of the 2020 team and SB IV was the QB too. That team actually had better players at WR and RB than this team does, and the OL back then was at least as good. Result? That team wasn't even good enough to make it to Atlanta. A Dan Mullen-coached 8-5 Gators team went instead. Again, folks who have Monken and SB IV on the brain just see what you want to see. It is the players that Smart recruited, not Bobo and Beck.
It will be great if our jumbo running backs Robinson and Robinson can get healthy enough to jar some heads when we play Notre Dame. Our other backs are strong and fast but better to have strong, fast, and BIG. Running north and south over whoever is in front of them!
Also, we need to make sure that Stockton doesn't get so excited that he gets hurt or turns the ball over as in the situation we're in that might be disastrous…
Overall, we have the heart, the coaches, and the depth to bring home the third Natty in four years for the Dawg Nation and to send Carson Beck off to the NFL with his head held high!
GO DAWGS! I'm amped!
Reading some of these comments, I gotta say that Bobo is a BIG liability. He is the offensive coordinator. He is responsible for the game plan, the execution, the development of the offensive players (yes that includes the butterfingers receivers and the unpredictable offensive line). He is responsible that we score early and often, rather than getting cold water in the face at halftime to wake up and start playing. I find it unimpressive that Bobo is up in the Club level instead of on the sidelines managing the offense in the flesh during the game. This is not good leadership, folks. He is far too predictable, conservative when he should be aggressive, and in my opinion is a liabiltiy to the team. I really wish we had a better offensive coordinator. Don't blame Searles and the receiver coach. They work for Bobo.
We're next to last in the conference and only 1 game ahead of Kentucky for most games this season scoring 10 points or fewer in the1st half. Kentucky 8, UGA 7; Auburn 7, Missouri7; Oklahoma 6; Miss St 6; Vandy 5; Florida 5; Tennessee 4; South Carolina 4; LSU 3; Texas 3; Texas A&M 2, Alabama 2. Ole MIss 2.
Not very often we are mentioned in the same batch of also rans in the SEC, but when it comes to 1st half stinkers we are right there with them.
This O-line needs to man up and get it done. GATA!!!
As several Dawgs fans have already mentioned, it’d sure be nice to have Both the Robinson boys back and fully healthy. When they are healthy Both are power back bulldozer type backs. Combine them with Etienne, Frazier, and Cash it would really wear on the rival defense. Not to mention the run threat of Gunner.
Course as has also been said the O line needs to perform at a high level. Would appreciate any info. on the health of the Robinsons from our DN writers. Go Dawgs !!
