Georgia inside linebacker plans to enter transfer portal
ATHENS — A third Georgia player has entered the transfer portal on Friday, with inside linebacker Troy Bowles doing so.

Couldn't make it on the field over the competition…. Perhaps he will shine at Jacksonville State or at Fort Valley College…
Could see it coming and really hate it for Bowles and Pemba. Both are great young men that worked hard for 2 years to play. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. Wish them nothing but luck and I feel confident they will be playing at a big program and contributing.
I'm more concerned about OLB/Edge than I am about ILB.
Inside, we have CJ Allen, Raylen Wilson and Chris Cole. All played well this year. Meanwhile, Justin Williams, Kris Jones and Zayden Walker are immensely talented. That's three deep right there. The main loss is Smael; Bowles didn't even record a tackle this year.
But, Oat LB/Edge, we're losing the teams top three sackers. Two of them will likely go high in the first rounder, while Chambliss — after the year he's had — should certainly be drafted.
Now, it'll be basically up to Damon Wilson, Gabe Harris and Q. Johnson, with all-everything freshman Isaiah Gibson in the wings. Damon has the most experience — all of 20 tackles this year.
I've seen a lot of talk about looking for WRs and DBs in the portal. Will OLB/Edge be an active area as well?
Hate to see Bowles and M'Pemba ring the bell unless they saw no future given the present and committed talent….Rhett should maybe reach out to Notre Dame, I'm sure they could put him to use….again, I'm dumb founded at everyone of these guys….much better to bury your plans, be a TEAM player, maybe win a Natty and get a ring then you've got 5 days to find a taker……
Just saw where Justice Haynes just hit the TP……it's never to late to come home Justice plus you'll be on a team that will make the playoffs again next year!
I agree. Finish the season.
Go, Dawgs!
You are right except for maybe 1 thing (depending when the UGA season is over). College players have to enroll during the enrollment window. IF UGA continues to win the games will be 1/1, 1/9 and 1/20. The question will be when does the enrolling school's enrollment window close?
Would not surprise me to see both M'Pemba and Bowles at FSU (or UCF or FU or Mia) next year. Looking back Bowles probably only played in 2 games this year to preserve a redshirt season. He burned it last year playing in 5 games. Seems to me it was probably understood that he was going to transfer after the season. The coaches and family made the decision to save that year of eligibility. No one understands getting another year of elite development at UGA (w/o using any eligibility) than Coach Todd Bowles.
huge bummer. Was really excited about bowles
Question for Yall, going into the playoffs how bad is this gonna damage our Special teams, as some of these guys were on STs ?? Maybe all of them were ??
UGADad20, you bring to light a fact I never considered……I'm still back in the early 70's when it was SOP for student athletes, football/basketball players, to make maybe an appearance or two during the entire "quarter "……boy that gave away my age…..I'd still register, do what I had to do to keep the academic advisors/coaches off my case, practice, hope for game snaps then re-evaluate when all is said an done…..but, Hey, I've established I'm OLD-School thinking.
Will Becks injury cause him to return for his last year of eligibility? I hope for everyone's sake he goes into the draft.
When a former five-star transfers from UGA, my immediate thought is that he was not willing to put the work in to develop at the college level. My suspicion is that some guys get by on talent at the high school level and don't realize just how much work is needed to be elite at the D1 level.
In fairness to them, it takes an incredibly high level of effort to rise to the top at a program like UGA, and even if I had the talent to do it, I don’t know that I would be willing to put in the kind of work needed either.
The exception to this suspicion is a position like quarterback, where there is only room for one starter at a time.
The problem is the transfer window closes and they would have to miss spring practice at the new school. There is no easy solution because spring semester begins before the playoffs are over. And look at national signing day, the week of the conference championship games. That one could be fixed.
Lane Kiffin said it well, comparing it to if the NFL opened free agency before the playoffs began. It would create total chaos with teams losing players before the season is over.
I still think players should finish the season.
Your point is well taken. This is primarily on the administrative and powers-that-be side. It puts players in a catch 22 which is very unfair to them and also to their current team.
In my personal life, I'm not always great at thinking everything through and I sometimes act with too much haste, but these folks are extremely well paid to think of the intended and unintended consequences.
The portal process should not scrêw the players nor should it scrëw the teams.
Go, Dawgs!
Why is quarterback an exception?
Go, Dawgs!
Responding to JimWallace
Because everyone else will likely have a shot at playing time, especially considering how much we sub in. And that playing time would come during competitive games. The backup QB will only see the field during a blowout. And a third-string QB has an even smaller chance of seeing the field.
