DawgNation Cover 5: Has Kirby Smart done his best coaching job with this Georgia football team?
Has this season been Kirby Smart's best coaching job at Georgia?

Interesting opinions.
When are y’all going to let Cody Chafins give his opinion on articles like this?
If Kirby Smart can lead his battered caravan of galactic warriors to the Natty, this season will definitely be his best. Understand BA's point, but we also need to acknowledge that the 2021 team had five first round NFL draft picks and 15 overall. This year's team will not come close to that. GO DAWGS! Dawgnation is so fortunate to have superstars llike Kirby Smart and Brandon Adams leading our glorious Dawgs to victory after victory. Who knows, they may be writing books one day about how Gunner Stockton led his team to the Natty!
Fellow Dawgs: These are the days. Savor every day, every game, every season. These are UGA's glory years, and we are blessed to live them with the coaches, team, and our fan base. Who knows how long this will last? How long can Kirby coach before exhaustion sets in? It will not last forever, that is sure. So, thank you all for your energy! We waited 40 years for this! GO DAWGS! Thank you, Kirby Smart, for all you do. You are the best bargain UGA ever made.
I don't think it's his best, at least, not yet. I like JS's answer. I mean, we're right at where perhaps the majority of UGA fans and sport pundits thought we would be. A two loss team. If you expected one loos or no losses at thispoint then he can't have done his best. We all hoped we would go undefeated but hopefully no one bet the farm.
Now, I will say this, if we can somehow go all the way with an untested QB, then it will definitely be his best. And CMB's.
Too early to tell.
We may live in a universe where the three most complete teams are the remaining B1G teams. PSU put up good fight against Oregon and OSU destroyed Tennessee more convincingly than Georgia did. In that universe, the 5 top 15 teams that UGA has played (plus one twice) weren’t all that great.
If UGA gets to the championship game, I would call his best season because of all the challenges this team has overcome. But if we get beat by ND or PSU, it could be considered his worst because his assistants (particularly the WR, OL and DB) coaches didn’t have those players ready to compete at a high level.
I am in the too early to tell camp. How can you make a claim either way comparing an incomplete season to completed seasons.
Agree with the Not Finished Yet comments. And also agree that IF Kirby and his team pull off winning the Natty it’ll be His and the Team’s best ever. And Bobo. I mean Gunner with only three weeks in reality to prepare ??!!?? And IF they do it
No all the glory won’t and shouldn’t go to Gunner. Just like if they lose it shouldn’t all be blamed on Gunner unless he is. s t u p I d with the ball, not just a couple of mistakes but s t u p I d with the ball. It’s gonna be a Team win or Team loss. We’ll see ……….. Go Dawgs !!
Splitting hairs trying to name A Best season IMO. They each have their own special moments and place '17 - first SECC, Rose Bowl, 3 pts from a Natty…. '21 - 15-0 & first Natty … '22 - Rebuild and repeat…. and then this season '24, 2 seed in CFP!
I'm gonna take em all!
Godawgs!
I agree with Jeff..the job is not done, yet..GoDAWGS!
In all the years named as the best CKS didn't have with all the problems that have been part of this season. The injuries, the most difficult schedule ever, and the controversies with players suspensions have all been part and parcel of this year's team. The fact that UGA only lost two games and won the SEC Championship demonstrates how CKS has dealt with all that has been thrown at him this season. This is probably the best year as far as coaching even if the team is not as talented as those of the past championship years. Regardless of whether UGA ends up with another National Championship this has been CKS's best coaching effort at UGA and with the incoming class we could see the dominance return next year.
Couldn't have said it better myself! The things this team has had to overcome is a lot for 18-22 year olds and only a coach like Kirby to keep them focused could get them where we are now!
The crowd at the Alabama game was unlike anything I heard in Tuscaloosa all year (based on TV anyway)…and I think that had a detrimental effect on the team, but they never gave up! That's the storyline I'll remember this year.
