Matthew Stafford gives Georgia fans yet another reason to admire his greatness

ATHENS — The kindness and character of former Georgia football quarterback Matthew Stafford was on exhibit once again in a recent dealing with the Detroit Lions fan.

DGD is thrown around a lot these days - MS sure sets bar high for that term to be used
Matthew Stafford is indeed a very fine and giving person. He is also a DGD—much closer to Dawgnation and the University of Georgia than is commonly known. Let's all be thankful that a man of this character represents all of us. GO DAWGS
GREAT article MG - It's always nice to hear about people that have so much, yet they are compassionate with their riches, giving to those that are in need. In this case, he realized the man was selling a prized possession and made it right. Wow, heartwarming!
If every professional athlete, and you can throw in college athletes now since they get paid, would act like Matthew Stafford, the games would be more enjoyable to watch.
Whether it’s giving this man a new autographed jersey, personally visiting and giving a family Christmas gifts that just lost their father, paying for bus trips for their fans to the Rams’ relocated playoff game, or countless other things that he and his wife do for others, he is a very giving class act.
Hopefully he’ll spend more time at Georgia games after he retires.
May God bless you Matthew Stafford!
What a heartwarming story. Thanks, Mike.
Go, Dawgs!
I genuinely hope Matthew makes it to the NFL HOF as much as a fine person as QB. The also great Fran Tarkenton needs a partner in Canton!
I forget who said it and which playoff game it was during, I wanna say it was Brady, but Stafford got a nice shout out as the QB who introduced the sidearm pass.
Dude’s a flat out warrior on the gridiron, and with a huge heart off it. Glad you mentioned Kelly too, Mike. I couldn’t help but pull for Stafford on the last drive against Philly, but was happy it was Carter who was the disrupter, *and* that all the Philly Dawgs now have their chance to earn rings.
He is indeed a good guy, but I recall him (with Knowshon Moreno) calling a press conference Butts/Mehre to announce they were LEAVING for the NFL. Richt heard the news at the same time as everyone else.
A simple press release would have sufficed,
@Classof98 I do understand how you could feel that way, but I respectfully disagree and prefer the in-person press conference over the instagram farewell, as it gives players a chance to personally thank the fans and their coaches, and explain what their careers and coaches meant to them. I also think players should have press conferences when they are staying. It's their time to announce a decision, and there is certainly interest — and, it enables them to clear up any misconceptions that may be surrounding their status with the team. It has been great interviewing the players at the Senior Bowl and seeing their personalities and respect for Kirby and Georgia come out.
Matt Stafford does UGA proud time after time. And Dawg Nation is proud of him and his great wife Kelly to !!
