Mykel Williams: Why healthy first-round prospect will be limited at 2025 NFL Combine

âIâm as healthy as Iâve been all year,â Williams said, his 6-foot-5 frame looking leaner than ever at 265 pounds after weeks of training leading up to the NFLâs showcase pre-NFL draft event.

MWilliams strikes me as a buyer beware type of player. Before the season I compared his UGA career to that of Travon Walker. Both showed flashes during their 1st seasons. Then both had very quiet (disappeared) 2nd seasons. TWalker then flashed a few splash plays in his 3rd season. IMO he was drafted #1 overall on potential rather than production.
MWilliams did have an injury during his 3rd yr. But he really did not differentiate himself, during his 3rd yr on the field, from any of the other UGA DL. That was disappointing. Hard to think that MWilliams best chance for impact on the UGA team was derailed in game 1 by a complete cheap shot hit to his knee by one of Dabo Swinney's "choir boys".
TWalker and MWilliams were both high (no evidence to suggest pun intended) 5* players coming out of high school based on potential. Seems after having, what can only be described as, disappointing UGA careers they will both be drafted on their potential at the next level.
BUT at some point MWilliams has to put in the work and effort to maximize his impact and production on the football field. He never seemed to do that at UGA. Instead relying on his physical skills to "get by" w/o ever seeming to "take over" and dominate a game. JWalker seemed to do that a few times this season. MWilliams never seemed to do that during entire UGA 3 yr career. Maybe that is the mindset of the new CFB star player? Protect yourself until you can cash in. Tease the production/greatness. Show enough to get the next chance/contract. Makes me wonder if he will be satisfied "going through the motions" in the NFL as he did at UGA. That makes him a buyer beware prospect.
