I would like to say, congrats to Coach Mike White for extinguishing the Tom "carsalesman" Crean dumpster fire and bringing stability and respect back to the UGA b-ball program. If nothing else, his hire was exactly what UGa needed AT THE TIME in it's quest to become a relevant basketball power. That being said, I still staunchly believe the CMW has proven to be, at best, a marginal Xs and Os coach. He is constantly out maneuvered by better coaches because of his continued ineptness at making the second half adjustments. His offense is consistently stale and predictable, and his helter skelter defense is constantly over reacting and out of position, leading to way to many easy buckets for the opposition in crunch time. I admire Coach White for getting his message to the kids and getting them bought in to the needed changes to have a winning program. I certainly don't wish him any ill well. I hope that one day I may joyfully eat crow as he makes the next step towards coaching greatness, but until then that from a coaching standpoint it is my opinion - Mediocre Mike he will always be.
@Gramster to be fair, Crean didn't have any NIL money to work with and inherited the worst basketball culture — historic and within the returning personnel — that I've seen in 32 years of covering college basketball. Landing the Antman was big … unfortunate COVID wiped out that postseason …. Crean got some nice wins, but that last year brutal.
@MikeGriffith. I enjoy your work but Crean took over a mediocre but solid program from Fox. MW inherited a total dumpster fire. And that 2020 team was talented but wasn’t going anywhere covid or no. Gotta give White his flowers as the kids say…he has righted the ship. Although I don’t think he’s a very good x & o coach at all.
