Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Understanding new college model after House vs. NCAA settlement

Itâs a complex time for collegiate sports fans, to be sure, as they look to understand the modifications and how they will be applied and enforced.

I can live with this and hopefully it can/will be enforced (though there are going to be lawsuits to test every piece of it)…If they can get the Portal set, then the coaches can get back to what they do best- Coach!
While I don’t see it explicitly stated, I hope this puts a stop to third party NIL deals offered as a recruiting inducement. It is not sustainable for the sport to use outside NIL deals to lure recruits.
This settlement will not stop post inducements for high schoolers or transfers. The Clearing House is fundamentally contrary to the Sherman Act and will push Collective deals underground through the old fashioned use of booster Bag Men.
Everyone can expect more lawsuits and attorneys getting richer! Pro pay for play have created a system of total chaos. Well done! 👎🏻
Well said . The bag man brings tax free bags as well lol .
Mike,
Your table headings did not come through. It is quite a mystery without the headings. The table at NCSA is much less cryptic. Might be best to ditch your copy and just let folks click through to the original at NCSA.🙂
This whole thing is going to be tested in courts…and in fact, the antitrust issues are enormous. It is great to have the NCAA completely removed from this process though. I like that. It's good to have stipulations and rules with the new CSC, but we'll see how many make it through court challenges before the whole thing falls apart and we officially move to enforceable contracts and players as employees. It's coming at some point. And I don't see how you are going to be able to distinguish and prove that some NIL deal is strictly about "business" versus solely a recruiting tool. Of course the deal is about recruiting!! Duh.
From what I have read, the elite, big money programs will be spending $40-50M per year to be leaders of the pack in the beginning. So much for the transfer portal and more parity. Many schools will have trouble just raising the $20M to get out of the gate after this first payout. The Haves vs. the Have Nots exponentially.
@LawDawg23 Apologies for the formatting issue — it's a new game in collegiate athletics!
"Investigations into the deals are expected to be resolved in 45 days, per ESPN sources."_____MG
IMO...this is the part that determines the level of success, this Written Plan will have. You can write laws and rules, the live long day. But…if you're unwilling to enforce em with some teeth…they're worthless.
I guess my question is....how much "power" have the watchdogs [CSC & Deloitte] been granted? And....Will they have the necessary resources. Where do they get their power and resources from?
@MikeGriffith ....excellent breakdown, Mike. I think i kind of understand it, now. Whether, this is where they end up, or not....it's a great start. Something structural to work with.
I still haven't been able to find out why the roster limit ? Will someone explain that to me please.
I haven't done research but I'm hoping that the removal of scholarship limits means what it says and there will no longer be games of "sorry, we'd give you a scholarship but we don't have any left available". If a player is good enough to make the Georgia team, they should have a "full ride" even if they aren't likely to get any large NIL deals.
They probably figured that any more than 105 for football would destroy revenue sharing sports distribution models. As it stands now, important Olympic feeder sports like Swimming will get non of that revenue. I thought NIL was supposed to be a ploy for "fair & equitable", it's seems the bulk of the money is going in only a few hands, which is neither fair or equitable.
The way it looks to me.…
The Dawgs can have 105 players on their roster......and, all of em can be on scholarship. (???)
Whereas, before....they had 120 players rostered, with 85 on scholarship. (???)
If that's the way it is...IMO....That will put a small hurt on the way UGA [etal] practices. Using 4 offensive and defensive units for scrimmages during offseason, as Kirby has been know to favor....will be impractical, if not impossible.
This could force Kirby to change his recipe a little bit and embrace the transfer portal a little tighter. Lol.
There's not a doubt in my mind, that UGA's Coaching Staff and Athletic Dept. are way ahead of this.
I just wonder how Gridiron Master, Kirby Smart-walker plans to mitigate this disturbance in The Force? Will he confer with his Pops, Darth Saban?...or turn to his old friend Obi Bobo Kenobi? Stay tuned for the conclusion, in next year's episode od "Dawg Wars". 🤣
