Social media sounds off on Georgia football win, SEC standings and Carson Beck debut in Week 1

Love how the national media is making is sound like Carson Beck wasn't the issue last year at UGA. Carson is STILL not accurate with long passes, so whatever.
I don’t understand where all the optimism regarding Stockton is coming from. The runs that everyone is raving about will not be even remotely available against Texas and Alabama defenses. His passing is below average and he fails to go through his progressions. He looks more like a true freshman than a red-shirt sophomore in his passing vision. Puglisi had similar running acumen and much better pocket presence. So if Stockton’s runs will be unavailable and he’s a below average passer, are we gonna be in another Jake Fromm situation where we stick with the “loyal Georgia boy“? This seems to be Kirby‘s one kryptonite
Bud Elliott is partly right about the Miami's OL being better, but Notre Dame lost two NFL defensive linemen and an NFL defensive end from last years team, as well as a very good linebacker who transferred.
EAV, enlighten us.
What would you do if you're the coach at UGA?
Lose..
Beck was lucky his second TD wasn’t intercepted and was caught by his receiver. If the ND defensive back had turned around sooner, he could’ve knocked it down or picked it off. Beck is fortunate ND was breaking in a freshman QB making his first ever start on the road.
Let’s hope Stockton has a better road start vs tenn in two weeks.
Was happy to see Beck do well and wish him the best; unless Miami plays the DAWGS. He was a DGD and was loyal and did his best last year. There were tons of issues that influenced the season and it definitely wasn't on Carson alone by any stretch. He felt he had to make the difference on every play and that resulted in some misses but many of those misses were not on him and the rest of the team shared responsibility. A breakup was needed for both I believe and it looks like both will be fine.
The one thing that concerns me this year is the O line. If you go back and watch that game, there are a ton of missed blocks (and Gaston had quite a few), particularly on passing plays, that if it is a better opponent, would have done serious damage to the DAWGS. I'm at a loss for what is going on with what used to be a huge strength for the DAWGS, but it really needs to be addressed. Just way too many RBs getting hit within 2-yards of taking the hand off and way too much pressure on pass plays where rushers were simply missed.
Beck was a little - make that a lot - full of himself last year, and that showed in his behavior - visibly frustrated when receivers dropped passes, pouting on bench by himself, etc. I think he lost the locker room with the Lamborghini; the fancy clothes he wore for NIL photo shoots when he strutted into the locker room surrounded by videographers instead of teammates in every Dawg Walk; his preening on social media with his Miami girlfriend, etc. He was he proverbial Emperor with no Clothes! He got back on board in the Tennessee game, as evidenced by his running over some tacklers instead of taking that ridiculous dive at the end of runs, and his teammates responded positively the rest of the way.
having said that, a lot of the offensive struggles were not on Beck. Our offensive line play was awful last year, as evidenced by how poorly we ran the ball, and our receivers were at the top of FBS stats with dropped passes. Aaron Murray, and Greg McLeroy also both pointed out in their podcasts last season that Georgia receivers were not getting enough separation from defenders which led to Beck interceptions when he was forcing the ball into tight windows.
I will pull for Gunner Stockton! He is a tough kid and a leader, and all in for the Dawgs, but Beck will play on Sunday. Gunner will not.
At one point in the Miami-ND game, the snap to Beck was high and his pass to his WR ended up being low. He turned to his WR and made a motion indicating the snap was high. In other words, blaming a teammate. That kind of thing isn't going to sit well with his teammates for long, especially when they lose a few games. UGA's problems last year certainly weren't all Beck's fault. That doesn't mean he was a well-liked teammate, though.
Yes. This was not the same ND team that we played at all…
OK so if Gunner is as horrible as You make him out to be how did he help the Dawgs win the SECCG ? I have nothing at all against Beck but if you’ll recall he was struggling mightily in that game. The Offense vs Marshall was extremely vanilla By Design. It was run, run, run. Still he put up 2 passing TDs and 190 yds. and No INTs. Until I see our Dawgs lose or struggle terribly on Offense and it’s Clearly Gunner’s fault I don’t see any reason Not to be optimistic.
👍👍
CBeck was "the issue last year"? SMH. I didn't know Beck played on the 30th (38th passing, 36th rushing) ranked defense. He threw a couple of very nice long throws last night. Put more air under like I said last year. Sounds like he got a little coaching this off season. Based on how CBeck handled ND last night would lead you to believe UGA beats ND last year had he played. The game was 3-3 with 43 secs remaining in the 1st half w/o CBeck.
@David1 Yup ND was breaking in a new freshman QB. Who incidentally was 19/30 for 221 yds and 2 TD's vs Mia. While RLeonard was 15/24 for 90 yards w/1 TD vs UGA.
I’m happy for Beck and hope he and the Canes do well as long as it doesn’t negatively impact Georgia. He was a baller two seasons ago as a first year starter, and had the Dawgs not done their usual disappearing act against Alabama, they could’ve three-peated. And last year, lots of issues with that team and yes, I think Beck contributed. But, with Stockton’s help in the SECCG, they won the SEC against a team bent on revenge, *and* after an emotionally and physically exhausting game against Tech. Beck was QB1 all the way to the end of the first half against Texas. That SEC Championship was huge. It also conveniently kept the most or second most annoying fan base in college football (the other UT being the other one) from flapping their gums the entire offseason and then some that the SEC isn’t that big a deal… puh-leaze. If we think Texas fans are insufferable now, just imagine if they’d won the SEC last year. And their path to the SECC was *way* easier than Georgia’s.
So yeah, thanks to Carson for doing his part to make last year quite memorable, and I hope he does well this year and beyond.
The only things learned here are that Marshall is talented enough to challenge our 4th stringers and No one on the Georgia sideline missed Carson Beck, but yet dawgnation gives us multiple CB articles, ain’t that special.
