Kirby Smart on Georgia OL injuries: âWeâre not who we need to beâ

Comments
Typically game 2 of the season leaves a lot to be desired and that was the case today. The game plan and strategy was flawed. This insane notion that you want to play vanilla ball because you don’t want to give 10rC something to see is foolish. We don’t do anything Heupel and their Coordinators haven’t seen a million times before. So your handcuffing the players and taking the joy out of the game for on a false premise.
A word of warning to the rose colored glasses folks. Gunner ain’t it. He doesn’t have it now and he ain’t gonna have it 6 games from now!
If Kirby doesn't send Searls and Bobo packing at the end of the season he in for fan revolt. He can whine about the fan attendance all he wants but if keep putting out product like today's stinky showing nobody is going to show up. Injuries, if you can't score from the 2 on 1st down against AP what are you going to do against UT.
I am sorry, but this game was embarrassing. Are you telling me that with all the TE/WR weapons that we have, we could only muster 7 points a quarter? I get that we had OL issues, but I mean, come on, man, you had all week to get your next man up for every position, and it just seems that we struggled. We still cannot punch it in from 2 yards out, which is terrible. 4 punts is three too many against a very terrible team. I get we want to run it and establish the run, but the most efficient back we have is Phillips, and he only gave him 7 carriers. Feed him the ball, man. His breakaway ability and tackle-breaking ability make him a true weapon. And he does not fumble. Not happy with this team's passion, energy, and effort in this game, or the play calling for that matter. Like I said, 28 points against Austin Pea is unacceptable. UGA needs to wake up, or it will be a very long day in Knoxville.
It could have been worse I suppose, we could have lost to USF…
Georgia has played very vanilla the first two games. I do agree that the O line is terrible once again which has to be attributed to the sorry O line coach. The defense might have to win the game next weekend. Go Dawgs!
The play calling didn’t have anything to do with the lack of points. Time after time, replays showed wide receivers breaking open as Gunner took off to run. Gunner has to learn to use his legs to create opportunities to make explosive plays down the field with his arm. A five yard run is good, but explosive plays create scoring opportunities. The offense will be pedestrian until Gunner or whomever is playing QB starts hitting guys down field.
UGA seems to have the injury bug more than most, it seems. In the past, it seemed to be more in-practice, but this year, so early in the season, on-field injuries seem to be piling up. If our O-line is dinged up before even a single SEC game, the probabilities the Dawgs will be into 2nd and 3rd string for many positions in the meat of the season seem much higher (and concerning).
After many years of this injury situation, it seems unlikely it's just random bad luck, but I don't have the data. Would be awesome if Connor or MG would do a five year look back at UGA injuries vs the rest of the SEC. Might be I'm just too close to the situation with UGA to realize this is actually also a problem for other SEC and/or Top 25 teams...
You are right "Kudzu", Injuries are a way of life for Georgia football. Our injury list is always 6 or 8 players long with the majority being starters. I've watched Georgia football for a long time and it seems to always be the case. I'm wondering how many we'll be without at Rocky Top.
