David Pollack raises alarm with Georgia pass rush: âI saw a bunch of guys that couldnât winâ

Welcome to "Around the DawgHouse" where we update you multiple times each week on the latest news and information from the different sports. Around The DawgHouse is also a daily feature on DawgNation Daily.

I share Pollack's concern about the pass rush. I haven't seen a guy who can consistently win and get pressure on the QB. That's going to be a problem against the better QBs. Blitzing will work at times, but good QBs and coaches will take advantage of the blitz, especially when they have the talent at WR to win one-on-one battles. Hopefully, one of the LBs will become that guy, like Jalon Walker did last year. We have to remember that Walker was playing opposite Mykel Williams, and teams focused their pass protection on him, which gave Walker favorable matchups.
David states the obvious. I guess that is all you have when your relevance continues to diminish daily.
David also said clemson would win the national title.
He does make a good point, but hopefully with 2 weeks to get ready, Georgia will unleash something that bama hasn’t seen and won’t be ready for it. Go Dawgs!
yep. better rush needed. better DB play needed. I think we get both. going to be a street fight.
Go Dawgs
Could I downvote this a thousand times?
David Pollack is a three-time All American, an all time great player, one of the best edge rushers in history, a Dâmn Good Dawg, and an actual authority on the subject. Unlike many of the talking heads, he's earned the right to speak his mind about Georgia football.
He wasn't the only one wrong about Clemson. Of course, that's assuming he was wrong which I'd bet he was but which we truly don't know yet. The championship game could be between Notre Dame and Clemson for all we know not that I'd bet a nickel against a dollar on that possibility. Nor would David Pollack I'd wager.
I suspect Kirby & Company are cooking up the perfect recipe to make a tasty Elephant Stew in Sanford Stadium. That said, David Pollack seems to be concerned the Dawgs don't have the necessary horses at edge rusher. I hope he's wrong which he could be but show me the evidence (against Alabama).
Remember when Pat Dye said Georgia wasn't man enough to beat Alabama?
Go, Dawgs!
Goes back to recruiting. You have to have the elite talent and lots of $ for the position. NIL has leveled the talent base!
I am sure that we all think we know the answers to all our problems whether offense or defense. I will go logical, This group is young and needs game experience. We may not have the talent of any other year and we may get beat on plays or even in a game or two but as long as they are trying hard, we need to be a little less critical.
That is definitely a lot of it - “experience”.
That is a difficult offense to account for. A lot of eye discipline is required with rpo’s, misdirection etc. if you don’t have it and not play your position, the QB can pull it and pass, run or hand it off ….if you overplay it, or play the wrong man, someone could be gone to the house.
Hard to pin your ears back and just rush with all that going on - containment is also a big part.
Like the OL line, the DL has to work first before the defense does. You also had the crowd noise and fast - pace that made it tough.
I agree, more exposure & experience will certainly help. I believe the talent and attitude is there.
I believe Bama runs a pro offense, pretty sure they play much better this game
Doesn’t seem that long ago, that a certain legendary Dawg, in eerily similar circumstances, in almost the exact same fashion, waxed poetic motivation…
"UGA just isn’t man enough to beat Alabama"…
And then…a pesky, undersized, hyperactive, gritty, 3* converted sophomore fullback took it personally, and another UGA legend was born!
Thanks for the unforgettable memory DP

David may have been a good dawg player, but he consistently picks against UGA. That's my opinion. I really quit listening to him for that reason, and I'm pretty patient with most. Not just UGA, he loves to pick against conventional wisdom. As a result, he's often wrong. Does he do it to curry favor with his masters?
In this case, it's an obviously straight forward point that everyone can see. My concern is that the dawgs have recruited very well, so are we saying those kids aren't that wonderful? Are they giving them snaps? I know seniority reigns, but if the upperclassmen can't get it done… I know it's not traditionally Coles place in the lineup, but shouldn't he get more time if he can put pressure on the QB. When it comes to pass rush, you need to think outside the box. A great pass rush has won a superbowl for the Denver Broncos.
Try the pup, Isaiah gibson. Can’t be any worst….
It hurts when David is right, and he's calling it like he sees it. You can bet your last dollar Pollack wants it fixed. We will not win the game against BAMA without a couple of sacks and significant pressure on the QB. My fear is we'll see another 10-10 completions by the QB to start. Fla St proved they aren't the boogie man, they used to be, but they're still capable of beating us, if we can't dominate the line of scrimmage. Go DAWGS!
There have only been three 3-time all-American players at UGA, Herschel, Brock Bowers and David Pollack. I don't think any of those three have any diminished relevance no matter how long it's been since they played. Interesting comment, NOT.
The film doesn't lie. If Pollack sees it the Alabama coaches see it too. What we don't have this year is a turnover machine at QB and at least the WR's are catching the ball. I expect us to beat Alabama, flaws and all.
Another former player looking for clicks & relevance in a game that's leaving them behind. It's sad, to me. I know he knows better, too.
But, that's okay...imo....if anybody's entitled to an opinion ion on the Dawgs defense...it's David "Mad Dawg" Pollack.
I just don't completely agree with the "no pass rush" type comment. There is more than one way, to skin that cat. Just watch what Kirby has up his sleeve.
If Pollack sees it....then, you can bet...Kirby sees it. What did Kirby have to say?. Lol
Go Dawgs!!
Much respect to the King...but, he has no clothes on this one. Welll....maybe he has shorts and a T...cause, the DL wasn't dominating like we know they can. Imo, they can and WILL get better, as the year goes. Then, Pollack can say, " Look...Kirby turned it around.".
IMO....They just need some seasoning and confidence. That'll come. Or maybe....after last week....it's already here. We'll see in a week and a half.
