C+ for the Offensive line is charitable. I didn't feel they blocked well at all. Gunner had very little time to find an open receiver and outside of the 4th quarter, they didn't block well for the running backs. They were constantly getting outplayed by Florida's defensive line.
Agree Venom. I’m thinking a C for the secondary is pretty generous as well. I’ve asked this earlier but is it time to start looking for a different secondary coach? Go Dawgs!
NOT excusing the INT just saying, the ball was tipped a tiny bit at the LOS or it sure appeared that way. Hit Noah on the tip of his fingers. To me that’s one of those “ it was gonna happen anyway “ type INTs. It wasn’t a bone headed INT. There were at least two though that could have easily been picked off. Not one of Gunner’s better days.
If Gunner had went in and scored he’d have faced the wrath of Kirby !! While I understand the Why, ESPN Oops the Playoff Committee might not be as charitable. ALL they see firstly is Wins and Losses, Secondly they look at points scored or Not scored. So they probably won’t even Try to understand Kirby’s logic.
They will probably say when points are available you Take them. Course we know how beloved the Dawgs are by the rest of CFB anyway. Yes that was sarcasm. Go Dawgs !!
I almost think Bobo/Smart gave Bowens very few carries in the 1st three quarters. Then dropping him like a MOAB, all fresh and speedy in the 4th Q. The Gators couldn’t catch up on his TD run. Great win, but gotta get ready for MSU and Anthony Evens, a former DGD. GoDawgs!
While he had a great game as a receiver, I find myself always questioning Branch as a returner. He catches punts he should let go, he allows others to bounce that should be caught. He can be electric, but his decision making is headscratching at times.
Connor, when you review the game, you’ll see that Stockton’s interception was tipped at the line causing the ball to go more behind Thomas to bounce off his hands. The announcers even missed that.
Once again, the PI on Branch was a terribly bad bogus call, as was Gunner’s clap. It’s obvious that the zebras are trying to get back at Kirby for the TO issue vs auburn.
Just when the frustration builds watching Gunner make another bad pass or decision, he essentially wins the game. Nobody ever said he was the best QB in college ball, but everybody says he's a winner. I'll take the latter, thank you.
Interesting that you feature the video of the numbskull saying the 4Q incomplete pass call was horrible, when in fact it was the right call and would have been a travesty to have over-turned it.
As for Branch, what's distinctive about him is not only his route running and YAC, but he catches EVERYTHING… how refreshing!
Go Dawgs!
And what made it even better, Bowens was originally committed to florida. I hope that late Bowens TD gives uf fans nightmares for weeks to come.
I think this is right... and smart (no pun intended) by CKS/Bobo, if actually true.
I continue to be confused by CR's low rating of the TE's in reviews like this. Did they do a poor job? I didn't see any big misses, catching or blocking. In fact, the few times they were used, I thought they did well.
IMHO, their low usage was on the coaching and/or QB, therefore, the players themselves shouldn't be downgraded with a rating that should be reflected elsewhere... which brings up a topic many of you have suggested in the past: why don't these "grades" include Coaching as a category (or maybe even categories, given how variable our performance seems to be across the various coaches)?
Bowens, Branch and Allen get an 'A' no doubt.
Give most of the O-line credit blocking on Bowens game winner including the receivers that got blocks or enough interference with defenders to give him that running lane. Frazier ran hard but not a lot gaps to slip thru most of the game.
Gunner had a average day. Think the pick was more on Thomas than Gunner. It was behind but catchable. Don't usually complain about refs but the penalty on the hard count was pathetic. QBs do this all the time to draw the defense offside.
After UGA scored on the opening drive the next series of play calling got way too conservative - a QB run - no yardage, a swing pass to Jones - no yardage, a screen pass to Branch for 2 to 3 yards. Followed by an awful punt to put FL in great field position and setup their 1st score.
The secondary was a mess again. The 1st TD given up was a treat as Bolden got burned on the play. The wide open pass that was ruled incomplete in the 4th qtr was just the break the team needed but everyone was so badly beaten out there.
OL… C- (Drew Bobo blew it bad)
Secondary…D (I agree, new coach)
Secondary…D+ (messed up bunch…new coach needed)
“Gunner Stockton did not play at the same level as he did against Ole Miss.”
He did look a little sluggish and didn’t seem to have a quick release on most of his throws. I’m sure he will address this for the MS game. This guy is such a competitor I love watching him play. These fourth quarter comebacks aren’t good for my nerves! LOL
GO DAWGS!
Was very excited when we brought in the Bama secondary coach a couple of years ago but have been disapointed in the results particularly the busted coverages that seem to happen on a fairly regular basis.
Without CJ Allen our D would be even scarier, if that’s even possible, to watch. He’s the main reason we’re 7-1 instead of something like 5-3. He’s a really good football player.
Agree @Stiffneck with your observation re play calling after first drive. It’s a pattern we’ve seen far too often. Any lead at anytime causes Bobo to go much too conservative in calling plays. We need to keep the pedal to the metal on O much more often.
