Why is UT ranked ahead of Mizzou?
UGA will win.
Bring on The REAL rushing QB who passes to a cadre of elite receivers backed up by a stable of bruising rock toting RB's and capped off by a run stifling QB pursuing D-Line and a coming of age INT focused secondary…..The Dawgs in a route.
@flipside Not sure I understand that question. Texas is 9-3 with victories over 3 teams in the top 12 (Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, Texas A&M) and losses to #1 Ohio State, soon to be #2 Georgia and 5-7 UF. Missouri is 8-4 with victories over no one with a winning record (3 cupcakes plus Kansas, South Carolina, Auburn, Mississippi State, Auburn). This was actually a disappointing season for Mizzou, who won 11 and 10 games the prior 2 years against tougher schedules, and it cost Drinkwitz the Florida job. Yes, UF was a bad loss and it will keep Texas out of the playoff. But having lost to 3 teams that Texas beat - Vandy, OU, A&M - with the OU and A&M losses blowouts, Mizzou was never in the playoff picture to begin with.
@GtheGreek A "real" rushing QB would have had more than 42 yards at 2.8 yards per carry against a Georgia Tech defense that has been average at best all year and outright terrible in November, especially with an OL that, even with Bobo hurt, still had far more future NFL players on it than did Georgia Tech's front 7. It is odd: true dual threat QBs dominated the 2000s and 2010s. Not even getting into Vince Young, Tim Tebow and Cam Newton but Jalen Hurts had 955 rushing yards at Bama in 2015 - which is more than any UGA tailback since 2019 though Nate Frazier has a shot at catching him this year - and 855 in 2016.
But this decade, it really looks like actual dual threat QBs have exited the stage at contenders. They seem to have been relegated to middling programs like South Carolina and (these days) Florida and the mid-major schools. A real shame because the days when contenders had guys who could throw for 3000+ yards while rushing for nearly 1000 at well over 5 yards per carry were a lot of fun. I don't know why contenders stopped recruiting and playing them because it isn't as if the guys who replaced them are true dropback passers who can throw the ball 70 yards downfield and all over the field accurately (which Stockton also can't do) either. You are more likely to see a true dual threat in the NFL i.e. Baltimore, Buffalo, the Jets, the Eagles, Redskins, Colts, Panthers etc. than you are for a college contender and that doesn't include the guys for the Giants, Cowboys and Raiders who were dual threats when they entered the NFL but became more pocket passers as they got older. Which is odd because not so long ago everyone claimed that dual threat offenses were for the college game only and you needed pro-style guys like Tom Brady to succeed in the NFL.
