Everything Kirby Smart said as Georgia football season comes to crushing end against Ole Miss
Iâd open with the Sugar Bowl staff, committee, they did a wonderful job hosting us. Felt safe all week, or the three days we were here. They did a great job of bringing New Orleans into our hotel, and I know our players enjoyed being here. It felt very different than last year in terms of the environment and everything. Great crowd out there today.

welp let's go portal shopping
Explanation about the 3rd down call absolute hogwash. (I would say it more succintly but…) its like Monken's short yardage goal line jumbo packages have been stricken from the playbook and can never be used. Ga should have been undercenter with 3 TEs a 300lb lead blocker in the backfield with either Mccray or Bowen taking the ball on 2nd down and 3rd down or something like the Broderuck Robinson td run/ pass option which was thrown into Bobo's blackhole like many other successful ones never to be used again.
Kirby is the coach for a reason but I'm sorry, in that situation, let's take the tie and go to OT, and win it there. I think our odds would have been a lot better than trying to throw it in from six yards out, into tight windows and spaces, to a receiver who had already stepped out of bounds so couldn't legally even catch the pass. But the play that bothered me most was the play before that, when we did the handoff to Bowens and lost three yards. I thought — and even Greg McElroy said — that we would just run Gunner Stockton two more times from the 3-yard line. If he gets in great. If he doesn't, we're kicking a field goal to tie with under 20 seconds left. I know it was a read option and Stockton chose to give it to Bowens when he probably should have kept it. But, I never would have even given him the option. Just put the ball in Gunner's hands for better or for worse.
Like the game itself, CKS comments leave me scratching my head.
The final 3rd down call seems like Coaching 101, shouldn’t require decision-making or even multiple syllables (run ball, bleed clock, kick FG, force OT).
After that, (still no "decision-making book" but full sentences required), remind DB’s what they learned in Pop Warner ball…for the next 56 seconds keep everything in front of you, foul if necessary, but DO NOT let a player run behind you.
Can’t win every game. Was a great opportunity for the team though. The transfer and NIL and recruiting has changed and your gonnna see it on Georgias roster. If we don’t change our spending philosophy which makes perfect sense to people that live in the real world but don’t make sense in the college football world then this will be our future (first round loss, playoff cusp team). what a long season. They have stretched this out so long now that I am really mad they lost but I am sort of fatigue from football. The month leading up to these games is ****. Point blank ****.
the month off leading up to these games is the stupidest thing that I have seen. It’s always been ****. The bowl games not being played when people actually have time off for vacation then you go back to work and the bowl games were on tv. Never made any sense. The athletes are with the teams anyway don’t give me anything about school work or family time. This layoff now and stretching this thing out till almost February is crazy. The conference championship games make zero sense. Gabe Harris being out…hurt on the edge.
Kirby and his buddy Bobo got their @$$es handed to them by Golden. He said he was going to make the Dawgs punt, and did he ever. The D played well enough to win but the offense looked almost as bad as the Tech game. That crap won't cut in the playoffs. It was infuriating to see the camera turn to Branch waiving his arms at Gunner, only not to be seen. Hell, Beck would have hit Branch on that play. I don't pretend to know what Kirby has planned to fix this, but for the highest paid coach in college football, and his over paid cohorts, they need to work 18 hour days until they come up with something.
My last comment on the game.
I am so tired of Kirby’s “the standard is the standard” nonsense, and I have to assume players and recruits are too. Apparently the standard now is to mishandle game situations. It’s not preparing 2’s and 3’s all season so that are prepared to step in when injuries happen. It’s having top offense and defensive recruits walk away on signing day.
Mistakes happen during a game, but the last 5 minutes last night were coaching malpractice.
Apparently, someone told Josh McCray that he’s a scat back who should run outside. Same for Bowens. Same coaches who fail to instruct defensive backs not to get beat deep at the end of a half when pass interference is only 15 yards.
But yea, there’s a “standard”
Georgia had Ole Miss on the ropes and Bobo went into his shell and lost the middle eight. The play calling was terrible. and predictable. The game was there for the taking. Score once and it's Ole Miss desperation time. Instead, Bobo gave all the momentum back to Ole Miss. The fourth down go for it was the dumbest call I've seen in a long time. The decision not to run the ball to run the clock down was coaching malpractice. The coaches lost this game. Kirby's game management has always been shaky, but last night was a perfect storm of errors to lose a very winnable game. And no Mike Griffith, Ole Miss was NOT the better team.
