Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

UGA hasn't been RBU since putting in Monken's scheme. Since then no UGA RB has come close to averaging the 90 yards per game that it took to hit 1000 yards back when most schools played 11 game seasons (Swift had 87 yards per game in 2019) and no starting RB has reached 6 ypc (Swift had 6.2 in 2019 and 6.4 in 2018). As a result, the only UGA RB to get drafted higher than the 4th round was the younger brother of a perennial Pro Bowler who ran a 4.42 40 at the combine (Cook). And being the younger brother of another NFL starter was why Etienne went in the 4th last year instead of 7th or undrafted like most of the other RBs in this new offense.
Nearly all the blue chip talent at RB in the Smart era came to play in the offenses that UGA ran 2001 - 2019. Guys currently in high school, in the transfer portal and on UGA's current roster have had 6 years to see what UGA has done with the RB position since: an offense that doesn't use the downfield passing game to take safeties out of the box and replaces a lot of the touches that the RBs generally get with short passes to the TEs, slot WRs and designed QB runs - Stockton had more rushing attempts in 12 games this year than Cook in 15 games in 2021 and Milton in 13 games in 2024. Where Edwards and Milton had 14 and 13 TDs in 2024, Frazier and Bowens combined for 12 TDs in 2025 so Stockton could get 10. Stockton's Heisman candidacy came at the expense of the RBs. Yet these RBs are still expected to do plenty of blocking including pass protection and blocking on the very short passes and QB runs that are replacing their carries.
How many top RB recruits are going to sign up for this? Something to consider going forward.
@randomsportsfan Except James Cook just led the NFL in rushing this season ….the model for what constitutes a great back has changed, as the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield has become paramount at all levels.
That said, it remains to be seen if Frazier/Bowens end up as starting NFL backs. The jury is out from this perspective.
