National media quesitons whether the Georgia defense can return to elite form
For all the talk this offseason about replacing key receivers or improvements made by Gunner Stockton, the Georgia Bulldogs have plenty of questions as it comes to the other side of the ball.
Comments
Georgia's defense has gotten worse than the year before every year for the past five years. This explains why nobody is interested in poaching Glenn Schumann. Remember when everybody was saying that "he's the next big time SEC head coaching hire?" Well, that never materializes but since he is one of Smart's bubbas he gets an obscene pay raise every year regardless. We might do well to let him go and hire a real elite DC. Oh, forgot…. Texas just hired Will Muschamp…. Not good. Short answer from my foxhole is that Schumann cannot lead UGA's D back to its 2021 or even 2022 level. Ever.
I see your point, but another reason is Kirby’s inability to stockpile talent like he did for the 2021 and 2022 seasons due to the transfer portal and NIL. Georgia simply doesn’t have the 3 and 4 deep talent depth chart anymore. No one does.
Appears to be an over-use of the words break-out player. Not sure whether one player can make that much difference. Picky little me would just say it is apparent that the D needs to step up their sack production. That is not putting the **** on any individual player.
There were several instances where the D had opposing QB trapped in the backfield obetter only to see them escape so there is room forimprovement in that regard as well.
Overall I expect to see a better D this year
100% correct. It is not coaching. NIL has nulled Kirby's ability to recruit the elite playmaker due to $. We may get one every now and then, but they are going elsewhere such as the oil schools. He just needs to adjust somehow.
My concern for the '26 UGA team is much more for the offrnse than the defense. Most of the recruiting success UGA has had over the last 3 years has been recruiting D. #'s 1,5,9,10,19,90,99 were all 5* players recruited to the D now hitting their prime.
The O is much more quesionable. QB has not demonstrated he can use all the field, make all the reads and make all the throws. OL play has not been up to the championship standard. TE's have been inconsistent and wr's are young and unproven.
The inability of the '25 D to apply pressure was mostly the defensive scheme. Bend but don't break to protect an unknown offense.
and the Parrot parrots. No surprise that this was your next negative take. We know how good pundits are at predicting the future with their negative takes and Connor bites every time.
what's "happening" in Dawgnation vs speculation and what National Media is saying predicting for a season 7 months out!!
