Where does Georgia football turn after Peter Bourque chose Virginia Tech?

Not a big surprise, but honestly, looking at our loaded QB room behind Gunner I don't see anyone that is elite. BUT, that being said, it's too early to tell. I don't think Puglisi is our man after this season, because I haven't been impressed with what I've seen in the little actual game time he's been in. And even in the Spring, he was just okay. Give me experience over inexperienced game day freshman or even sophomore talent, because even a 5-star like Vandagriff can end up being a dud.
I think after this season, unless someone has to step up for an injured Stockton and proves himself, Kirby goes after an good, experienced QB from the portal. That formula has proven itself time and again recently if you want to really contend for the Title.
I think some people are selling Hezekiah Millender-Hale short. He played the best of all the QBs (not named Stockton) in the spring game IMO. He is eerily similar to Stetson Bennett in that he was seen as a "stop gap" pick-up and not expected to do more than add depth and competition. Out of who we currently have in the stable, Montgomery and Millender-Hale seem to be the most likely candidates to step in after Gunner exhausts his eligibility. Puglisi just hasn't set the world on fire in his time here and the jury is still out on Beaver. Don't be surprised if Millender-Hale is the next SBIV story…
Sentell said in a previous article that this kid wanted to go to a winning program that had a chance to win a national championship and to be developed. Hmmm. Did he do any investigating into any football program at all? Va Tech doesn't fit into any of those categories.
Given what we already have, it wouldn’t make sense to invest in a mediocre QB prospect for this cycle.
QB will always be difficult to recruit in the KS model. KS wants his QB to sit and develop in the offense and prove himself on the practice field against the Dawgs' defense. Programs offering immediate playing time will often win that battle because kids want an opportunity to get on the field as quickly as possible. Any coach recruiting against UGA just shows the recruit the history of UGA QBs, which is hard to argue against. The two-time NC winning QB had to wait four years and transfer out; Beck waited three years, and Stockton waited three years and almost didn't get an opportunity if Beck hadn't gotten injured in the SEC Championship game. Now UGA has four scholarship QBs sitting behind Stockton, waiting for their opportunity - why would a four or five-star commit to that when they can immediately compete at other big-time programs? I'm not arguing that the KS model doesn't work; they've had very good QB play, but I understand why young QBs would choose to go elsewhere.
Georgia was seen as a strong contender for Bourque. He’s described Georgia as one of the premier, if not the premier, programs in the country.” Hmmmm my guess is he decided he didn’t want to play for an elite program. Go dawgs!!!
I guess VahhTech outbid my initial 250K offer…and it was substantial enough to make this kid rethink…do I really want to go to a winning program with a chance to win a natty??? Nah, I'll take the money, honey…
@87Dawg_11…Agree with you 100%. And I don't think Beck was that good. Heck, he didn't even get drafted until the 3rd Round. He was super inconsistent and threw way too many interceptions - even last season. Miami made him a better QB, but that was because of the elite playmakers around him.
Kirby will probably be forced to change his development "model" when it comes to the QB position. Experience is key, and with the NIL and new landscape, most QBs simply are not going to stick around for 3 years to get the starting job.
Bring in a portal QB that's a senior for 27 & then load up for Wade in 28.
By the time Wade comes due, someone will buy him out plus immediate playing time. Hope I am wrong….
The wasted time a coach puts in recruiting these kids only for them to de committe for NIL . Transfer portal is the way to go for a QB. Look at that QB at Indiana last year, Beck, Trinidad or even Simpson. These were hired guns.
aquick summary. Probably will still be 5 or 6 QB's on the roster and UGA doesn't pay top money for new guys. Bingo, there he goes elsewhere
Appears that Va Tech outbid us. Smart decision for them. UGA has a lot of QB's at the moment. Beaver and Millendar were such a surprise, I could see where that situation would give recruits a little pause. Not to mention the 5 star we have in the next class.
Crowded QB room plus weak WR room plus lower money is not an attractive combination. I don’t know why Puglisi has stayed.
Agree. Even if he didn't get the promise of immediate playing time as JS mentioned in the article, his path to the field is still shorter at VT than it would be at UGA.
