We had that. It's already a distant memory and now we're being gaslit to think it's still achievable by moving even further away from it. Like we don't see that they're pushing for a playoff bracket that includes barely ranked teams.
“I have been vocal about the idea that if you have a championship, and you have teams that truly could win a championship, and they’re not invited, which we experienced a few years ago, and others have experienced the last couple years, you don’t have the right format,” Phillips said.
Teams that "truly" could have won the championship have been getting left out of the 12-team tournament? Haha, sure they have, Mr. ACC Commissioner.
“It would absolutely have to alter the regular season, when we start, and the calendar is really compressed. We’d have to deal with that.”

I am biased being a long time SEC homer, but I really think the B10 wants the entire conference in the playoff and the crazy commish they have is not gonna budge. Sankey is saying all the right words, but he is wholly outnumbered.
"We do need to understand the economics". There's your 1st clue. It is all about money. The product really doesn't matter. 24 is too many PLUS there will still be unfair byes. With 24 there will be more blowout games.
8 is better than 12 and 16 is better than 12 or 24. Either way, any change means the end of conference championship games.
I totally agree and I've been saying it since there were 4 teams, 8 is the magic number. The coaches, for the most part, want more teams so they can have on their resumes that their team made the playoff. The reality is that there are 4- 8 teams that are really worthy of competing for a championship each year and the rest are filler for TV. When they go to 24, and they will, it'll be like the Bowl format where nobody will pay attention until we get to the final 4 teams. Additionally, teams that have a great year will lose players during the playoffs and get eliminated because their star players are out. I understand that revenue will rule the day, but I don't have to like it.
Too bad Sankey’s priority is maxing profit instead of protecting game integrity while putting a cap of total number of games teams need to play. Let’s not kill the players or cause unnecessary numbers of injury with fatigued beat up players.
He may be outnumbered but he has a veto.
