Pugs has shown on all occasions he has had the opportunity to play that he should not be the next man up. Millander and Montgomery are better and likely Beaver as well
Agee 100% NJDAWG! What puzzles me is that every report, plus what we saw on G-Day, tells us that but the coaches and the media keep telling us it’s not clear who the backup will be. Seems obvious it’s Montgomery, but apparently there’s something we don’t know.
I think the sample size is too small to say who the best backup QB is. I don't think it's Millander nor Beaver. I doubt either one takes a snap in the regular season. The few times Puglisi played last year, most people thought he did OK, with the exception of INTs, but ALL quarterbacks throw INTs, which is why I think there's just too much focus on that when a kid only has about 30 snaps. What is clear to me is that if Stockton goes down, our season is over. Neither Puglisi or Montgomery is the second coming of Jake Fromm. Which is all the more reason I don't get the decision by the Curtis kid to go to Vandy. It was not an unrealistic possibility that he would have taken meaningful snaps at UGA this season had he come here. He almost certainly would have been QB2 by now, and may have pushed Stockton for QB1, even though Kirby would have never allowed that.
My money is on Montgomery to be QB2, if I were a betting man.
I believe if Millender had a little more experience at the college level, he'd be a serious threat to Puglisi, and Montgomery to be QB2 behind Gunner.
I can understand that allot of Dawgs fans want to see the Dawgs beat TN St. 85-0 or 100-0. Some will even say it’s a massive fail if the Dawgs don’t win by astronomical scores along those lines.
But I’d Much rather see in particular our backup QBs get as many reps as possible. And backups at every other position as well. IF that were to happen then TN St. might score some points And our Dawgs not as many points. Some would call it a fail by our Dawgs. But I don’t think so if we’re putting in our 3rd string guys at the start of the second half ! 4th string if there is such a thing !
We need players as ready as they can be under the circumstances. Much more important than curb stomping TN St. !! I’d give Gunner maybe two drives. The Dawgs defense is vastly superior to TN St. Keeping Gunner out there would only invite injury and deny backups Needed snaps.
That’d be my take with all the Dawgs like Frazier and Bowens that are seasoned veterans. Give them a sample taste and Pull them !! Same on Dawgs Defense. Do that and thd score could end up something like say 50-17 which would still be a crushing victory !! Trying to go 75-0 by leaving the starters out there for a long time proves nothing !
Total assumption on my part. Won’t know till he faces a decent defense. But I think at this point it’s Montgomery. I think Pugs is having mental issues with the game Not physical. Trying To hard maybe ? Needs to relax and be himself ? I don’t know but it seems that in this moment if we had to replace Gunner it’d be Montgomery. Need to find out Who and Soon !!
