Another young man has seen the light!!
Commit to the "G"!!!
Go Dawgs! The place to be for all things development!
Why are getting so excited over a 3 star flip?
Bama. Auburn,—Georgia. Hummm. See you at signing, Nash?
There are going to be some long lists now after a player flips three or 4 times as a recruit. Then 4 or 5 times portaling to different colleges. A lot can go on after 7 or 8 years.
@RedUga4Ever - I hear ya. I think it’s a matter of trusting our staff’s evaluation of a player. Davis was a 3 star. We currently have a true freshman starting at right guard who was a 3 star. Arch Manning and Dylan Riola (sp?) were both 5 stars. Gunner was a 4 star. The folks assigning those stars may not know as much about a player’s potential and ability as our coaches. On the other hand, I don’t get excited about any commitment until they actually show up in Athens having signed the letter of intent. Just a suggestion, take it or leave it: We’re all Dawg fans on this site. We may disagree from time to time, but we try to do it without sarcasm or a “I’m smarter than you” attitude. Not saying you are doing that but your comment seemed just a bit little critical of the other folks commenting. Looking forward to reading your comments! GO DAWGS! BEAT AUBURN!
Here's the deal RedUga4Ever….forget stars, they are meaningless. Georgia coaches look at development potential. Nash is 6'1", 170-180, runs 4.4 40, plays for McEachern, one of the best HS programs in GA, GHSA 6-A going to 7-A, realizes his future success depends on development and the Georgia coaching staff is the best…plus he will not be signing with Auburn, Bama, Ole Miss, or Clemson. Knowing Mayo will sign tells me he knows playing time will depend on how hard he works and how well he develops.
What do Miami, Ole Miss, Texas, Tennessee, Penn State, Auburn, BAMA, Clemson, Florida and many others have in common? They were ALL actively recruiting this kid so please don’t be too quick worrying about how many stars he has. I don’t remember all those teams battling for Stetson, Ladd and Jordon combined. Our coaches wouldn’t offer if they didn’t recognize his potential. BTW, we jumped past Auburn in the recruiting class ranking with this commitment. Go Dawgs!!!
“1,000 percent recruitment shutdown,” says the recruit who said “1,000 percent recruitment shutdown,” after committing to Auburn. Color me not to excited.
Nothing negative in my question, I was genuinely not in the know. Kirby used to rack up #1 classes and now we are not. Since we are now ranked #1 in the polls, he for sure has a plan. Your info was informative and appreciated. However, I have no issue to post something that is not suger-coated just to be in the clique.
Good points and much appreciated! Long story short, it seems that several years of development will tell the story. I do see that Kirby has mentioned on several interviews that freshman play now so thier high school develpment is critical which will not ever show in the star system. Have a good one!!
Did you know that high school stars are assigned based on NFL draft forecasts? They are not based on HS production or performance. That's why there are typically around 30 (NFL 1st Rd) 5* prospects (Rivals) in every recruiting class.
Davis being a 3* was more a result of him being 400 (?) lbs in HS. It took 2 years to get Davis's conditioning to where he could sustain quality plays for multiple series. Once he became the 6'6" 340 lb athletic DT he became at UGA he wasn't a 3* player anymore. But he started with 5* potential that was realized when he became an NFL 1st rd pick. Zykie Helton was lower rated due to a medical condition that resulted in extreme loss of weight. There is an article on Dawgnation now that explains it. He was committed to AL 2 years ago. Obviously he was going to be a highly ranked player before his illness. So those 2 are not typical examples to refer back to.
As for Manning and Raiola their pro potential (impetus for the HS star rating system in the 1st place) still exceeds that of GS. Both will play another season (after this) in CFB honing their skills. That's about 25 more games worth of experience before they leave CFB for the draft. Manning will be drafted in the 1st half of the 1st rd of the '28 draft. Raiola is still too early to tell. But his size (among other things) will grade out higher in the eyes of NFL scouts.
As for as "trusting our staff's evaluation" these are the same guys (CKS and CGS) that recruited 4* DB's Washington, Pope and Kimber (among others) that never sniffed the field at UGA.
That all being said this prospect seems to have a high ceiling. Length, height, speed, aggressiveness and desire all seem above average. May be underrated/undervalued in the eyes of the people who grade HS prospects.
I’m sure he was %1000000 commuted to Alabama and Auburn. With the NIL I’m not sure if recruiting is a thing anymore, it’s more like a vending machine and you pay for what you want.
Let’s flip a 5 star or high 4 star DL and I’ll finally be good with the 2027 class. DJ Jacobs would suffice for these purposes :)
@UGADad20 - yeap. I know. Also know how good someone’s going to be at the next jewel ain’t an exact science. There are always recruits who bust. The busts are often 4 or 5 star players. I’m, at this point in time, trusting our staff’s evaluations even though we all know some folks we recruit will not pan out for various reasons.
UGA does have some of the highest turnover among signed prospects. UGA is not for everybody and everybody is not for UGA. But that also allows UGA, traditionally under CKS, to take more HS recruits in an attempt to find the "keepers".
There are a lot of talented HS players across the country as evidenced by the quality of football played at the collegiate level. The State of GA is one of the top 3 or 4 producers of HS football talent.
Development will become even more critical as many of the currently banked 5* defensive prospects move on to the NFL after this season.
We have seen evidence of development on the team in the last 2 games. GS, the OL and the DL seem to be trending up. It will be interesting to see if the DB's can catch up. Granted, DB excellence is often tied to pass rush. But with the talent on the team at DB it seems the ceiling has yet to be reached.
It seems incorrect that HS players are evaluated (star system) based on NFL potential. It seems HS players should be evaluated based on CFB potential and CFB players should be evaluated (NFL draft grades) on their NFL potential. There would probably be fewer "busts" if players were evaluated for what they will do in 2 years at the next level vs in 5 years at 2 levels up.
