What's the point of this article? Was it supposed to be a story about how Mark Richt used to motivate? A story about how Kirby Smart motivates players (which has been written about ad nauseam) ? A story about how no one on the UGA team is bothered by what Smart said in Tuscaloosa (of course not. They hear it all the time)? Is it a backhanded scolding of fans (or anyone else) who may have been bothered by what Smart said in Tuscaloosa? Just seems to serve no real purpose.
I dunno, DDawg. It only took me a couple of minutes to read it and I grinned a few times about CMR and remembering Pat Dye. Maybe that was the purpose.
Go Dawgs!
Mark Richt was 145-51 at UGA—-.738. A very respectable record. He is a fine man, and holds UGA near and dear to his heart. We were very lucky to have had him as our HFC and he still stays active in a lot of team activities. Very proud he was our coach.
OK. Maybe it was. As a former newspaper writer and editor, I just thought the piece, overall, lacked focus. It had a lot of information in it (some new, some not), but it didn't really take the reader to any logical point. If Mike had just stuck solely with a piece about how Mark Richt used to motivate, then maybe that would have been OK. But the story was all over the place. It was sort of like Griffith said, "I got to write about something. I'll just throw this out there." And you know, sometimes that happens when you have a beat that needs new material every 24 hours.
