The Heisman Trophy race could see a shake-up with the top six favorites playing in rivalry or signature games on Saturday.

Above is an " ESPN Headline". They project...in a headline, no less...."half of (OSU's) RB tandem out" against Indiana?
Does anybody remember ESPN making any kind of big deal or writing a story on UGA's Entire backfield being out for the Bama Game? Lol....nope, that wasn't important, then....cause Bama was the preferred winner. They didn't want give UGA any kind of cover....just in case Bama won. It was only mentioned in passing. Lmao.
And, Finebaum/SECN/ESPN is still projecting that the "officials robbed Bama of a win". What freakin' joke, they've become. Lol....nothing but glorified Fans with a microphone and TV Camera.
That same cast of characters....are throwing in the ol' ready made excuses for OSU getting their butt stomped this weekend. They know that Indiana's Defense is gonna shut Smith & Co. down Saturday. There goes their Heisman projection. Lol
Go get em Big Red....they still don't see ya comin'. Let the big Dawgs Eat!!!
Trying to understand the rationale of this article. If it's to bolster Gunner's Heisman chances—-aint gonna happen. Gunner doesn't drive a Porsche, wear expensive clothes, or hang with a different co-ed each weekend. He's not a fancy pants or a braggart—Gunner is US.
Most of the people that vote for the Heisman have very little understanding of what makes a player worthy of the honor. Thus they rely on statistics to justify their vote. Subsequently, the best that Gunner can hope for is to keep up the stelar pace and maybe be invited to NY…..to me that would be a win…Smith is a shoe in to win the trophy.
IMHO, distinguishing yourself as a quality NFL QB and being drafted in the first or second round is far better than a Heisman.
I don't know about you guys....but, I'm over the Heisman. It's A darned shame, too. It doesn't represent what it did, when I was a kid. I can tell ya that.
We need to create a New Award....one that looks at the Southeast first....then, everybody else. Call it "The Herschel Award". No need for a last name. His story will echo and resonate through time....like The Babe or The Doctor or Broadway Joe..…Lol.
Who creates such things anyway? And, why did The Heisman gain/keep more traction than say...The Doak Walker Award...etal..
Imo....The Heisman belongs to Notre Dame and the BIG 10/12 and PAC 10 (former). The SEC & ACC were uninvited guests that wound up taking over the whole house. So, give em A break.…until NIL/TP came along....that's all they had. So...we didn't mind, much.
But, when they started tossing the Award at the likes of Alabama, Texas and any team not named UGA every year…..that's where we draw the line.
I hereby nominate Gunner Stockton to be a candidate for inaugural Season of.....The Fran Tarkenton Trophy (The Franny for short)....dedicated to the Player that exhibits the most value to his Team in Leadership and Performance....on and off the field.
Stockton and " ? " are Top Candidates to win The Franny this year. See how that sounds?.
@BigDawg61 It's the most prestigious individual award i college football, and its voted on by former winners and select media members. The Doak Walker? Bad example. Look at its list of winners — and think about the backs that didn't win it. Very regionally biased award. I say that as the chairman of a national award myself. Next to the Heisman, the biggest award which we think of the Defensive Heisman is the Nagurski Award based in Charlotte. Let's hope College Football keeps some traditions like these trophys —I like the lineage between players of the past and current players who can share in the winning of awards.
@lucydog The purpose of the article is to inform you that Gunner Stockton is among the top 5 candidates for the most prestigious individual award in college football, and let you know who and what the competition is and has done.
@BigDawg61 I do think Indiana and Ohio State is a big enough game to warrant the props. I also think ABC and Kirby Smart thought Nate Frazier was going to play, and Chauncey Bowens wasn't a big enough national name — or even UGA's starter at beginning of year — to move the needle in a national headline. Georgia is build kinda like the Seahawks —- outside of them having JSN — I mean, who do you point to on offense as a top 10 pick or big star? The answer — by the way — is Gunner Stockton. He really elevated his game against Alabama and it will be interesting to see if he keeps firing the ball around the yard. If he keeps playing like that, wow
