ATHENS — Even after the first loss to an unranked team since 2019, Georgia coach Kirby Smart is still confident about what comes next for his team.

Definitely a self-inflicted loss today. Was Auburn the better team today? I don't think so, they just took advantage of the mistakes that the dawgs made. In the SEC, it is hard for any team to win after committing 3 turnovers and the amount of penalties Georgia made in this game.
Navy Dawg—>send it on over old man, God chose me for this fight. God is the teacher. Navy Dawg is the student, and I am God's instrument. When I squeeze your lungs, Navy Dawg, and you beg me for life, then your heart will open up to the Lord. When you eat through plastic tube, when you are paralyzed from neck down, then your family will gather around your hospital bed to see the new Navy Dawg. God's lessons are so beautiful.
Same old excuses from same old Kirby! This team is undisciplined. It seems like every QB is better than Stockton. Really. Gunner is simply good but not great. The second team linebackers are..pathetic. Bolden would have likely won the game. He is that valuable. Georgia needs to hit the portal hard for linebackers at the very least. This was not a good Auburn team….! I shudder to see what Ole Miss and Florida will do to UGA….even Mizzou. You cannot go from being seemingly elite to something above sandlot. Amazing, Bama was even worse than Georgia…drubbed 26 to 10 by Tenn. I am so disappointed in Georgia.
Ok coach no more interceptions . How about a fumble .
I think it’s time to accept the fact that Georgia needed Todd Monken, Stetson Bennett, and Brock Bowers to win those championships. And none of those guys are walking thru the door anytime soon. Gunner has taken the Dawgs as far as he can, but will never be elite. cf Aaron Murray. If UGA can split Florida and Ole Miss games, then expect them to go one and done in the playoffs… again.
No auburn wasn’t or isn’t the better team. Play this game on an even playing field, and Georgia wins this game 9 out of 10 times. What I mean by even playing field is auburn to stop crying to the sec office about just about anything and everything schedule wise…Georgia visits them two years in a row, they get this game moved out of Nov so they don’t have to play Georgia and bama back to back (but we just did) and they keep getting a bye week before our game. Our AD needs to start complaining about auburn always getting their way and negatively affecting Georgia. Georgia doesn’t lose today if auburn didn’t have last week off.
But Stockton doesn't need to be elite. He just needs to not be horrid. Both the interceptions were bad. Why was he throwing deep sideline passes to receivers who were well covered? And how did he "miss" (according to Kirby) Barbour on that one INT? The guy was like 7 yards away. And on the fumble, I just rewatched a slow-motion replay of that play and it wasn't a designed run like I initially thought. Stockton just decided (too quickly in my opinion) to pull it down and run it, but he had four (4) receivers open on the play. He throws to any one of them and we would have been in FG range. Stockton probably won't play that poorly again. The problem is, though, that the next three teams on our schedule are all significantly better than Auburn. So, even if Stockton plays better, it doesn't guarantee victory. And that doesn't even take our defense into account. It won't matter how well the offense does if the defense isn't going to tackle people, and our defensive backs don't learn how to PLAY THE BALL IN THE AIR. Oh well, the sun will come up tomorrow. Go Dawgs!
I know Allot of Dawgs fans are Ultra angry at Gunner. And that’s certainly understandable. He had a really bad game. But he did drive the Dawgs down field for the tie. And looked to be well on the way for the possible winning score when the terrible and tragic fumble happened.
I bet Gunner would eat the football with no ketchup, mayonnaise or salad dressing if he could get that fumble back. Stone me to death if you will but I have compassion for him. Kirby said he checked out medically. But he just seemed to switch Off after that head dive into the ground.
Hind sight is 20/20 but maybe Pugs should have been left in the game. I was opposed to leaving him in at the time due to inexperience. But he was clicking right along so maybe he’d have been the better option.
Where as Bama was probably the best we’ve seen of Gunner, vs Auburn was his worse. I Still think he’s a very good QB. And I’m confident he’s gonna want to redeem himself to the Team first then the fans. I hope he will for All concerned sake. Hope we curb stomp UF that would take much of the sting out of this loss. Maybe the Bye will be good medicine. Hope so.
On their two touchdowns, we actually had excellent coverage in both. Unfortunately, on the first, which was headed for a certain interception, our DBs run into each other and the only man standing is the receiver. Dumb luck? Maybe but we needed to be more aware. If only one of our defenders, either one, was there, we intercept easily.
On their second, Demello had incredible coverage but that catch was one of those insane highlight catches. The receiver caught it off Jones’ back. That was crazy and I don’t think our coverage could have been any better. I cannot fault him on that catch.
May be the worst game Ive seen…ever.
Not a doubt in my mind, nor in others, especially his team mates….Gunner is our guy, our leader, and at times our savior. Therein lies the issue. Gunner has to refuse to allow his "savior complex" to override his grasp of fundamentals and situational awareness….batted balls, especially off the helmet of your center or the arms of defenders, passes sailing at sonic speed over the hands of receivers, and fumbles caused by running into your blocker aren't allowing team mates to do their part in a team victory……the fact of the matter is that if The Dawgs make the first down, Woodring/Dawgs wins the game with a FG…..At this point rankings mean nothing, the only undefeated teams have played in cupcake conferences….Dawgs win out, we're back in the driver's seat and Gunner's the driver we need.
Not mad at Gunner. Not one bit. He should have been on the bench with Frazier. Puglisi had things under control and was gashing Auburn for the few plays he executed. He may have given us a better chance.
Not sure if Smart and Bobo were blind to Gunner's impairment but leaving Gunner in when Gunner wasn't Gunner and letting Frazier try to be Frazier when he wasn't was a lapse in judgement. I watched Florida start a high school quarterback. It took him a half to find his groove but that kid beat the snot out of Texas in the second half. I think Puglisi, given the chance, could have given us a shot, maybe a better shot.
Now, the hard part: how do you teach your elite defense how to tackle? How do you find intelligent coaches and coordinators that know how to adjust to a running QB. Was there a spy? Not Schumann's best effort.
Not saying you or I could have managed this game better, but this team was not ready to play an SEC game.
How does the league expect SEC quality and intensity play during the regular season and follow it with five highly intense games to win the CFP? The National Champion will now be the winner of a war of attrition and not necessarily the best team in the country. Further, expect high draftees to opt out of the CFP with its 73 additional injuries predicted—further diminishing the National Championship value.
I'll get off my soap box, sorry.
We lost because of turnovers particularly the last one, that's obvious. But what is also obvious to me is the game became winnable for AU because of their 1st TD. They ran a HB pass which fooled no one, we had 2 defenders within a yard of the receiver and neither of them ever saw the ball which is a long standing issue with our secondary. W/O that TD it's probably a 31-10 ish win for UGA IMO.
It's gonna be a long year. I'm tired & exhausted.
Had a very "Richt era" feel.
