Auburn pulled off a stunning upset over Georgia on Saturday. The Tigers marched into Sanford Stadium as three-touchdown underdogs and snapped a nine-game losing streak to Georgia with a 27-24 win.

This is the worst loss of Kirby’s career. The 2019 loss to sc was pre NCs, so yesterday was a pathetic performance by offense, defense, (not so) special teams AND coaching. A week after Bobo might have called his best game ever, he calls another clunker, especially the very first play that left Gunner completely exposed to get hurt, not running early to establish the run game and too many shots down field with an injured QB. Kirby should have called timeout on the missed FG attempt which was more proof Gunner wasn’t with it. Bolden might have made a difference on defense if he had played, but tackling was atrocious. O line couldn’t block. Frazier was running timid to not get hurt. Scovie needs to be replaced at punt returner. Georgia has fumbled 6 times in two games and are very fortunate they on lost one, but, unfortunately, that one was very costly and contributed mightily to the loss. I hope the Dawgs take this bye week to rest, refocus and get back to the basics. Hopefully this loss will help more than it hurts.
Hopefully what comes next is a full week of practices that focus solely on fundamentals like tackling, blocking, and assignment football. We obviously need to re- visit the basics of sound football execution. You don't give up 24 unanswered points to an unranked team...at HOME. No excuses.
I offer some thoughts on Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs losing to Auburn, plus expansion of the College Football Playoff and favorite college game-day traditions.Click below to check out my latest Junkyard Blawg.

Georgia and Bama both coming off of a very physical game with key injuries, and we certainly looked banged up Saturday. Auburn having a bye week before playing us looked like the fresher team, of course. People need to realize these guys are human and these games take a lot out of them. I have no doubt had we had a bye week before Auburn the results would've been different. This isn't BS talk, I still TRULY believe we're the best team in the country! I love this team! Dawgs will be fine! Let's get ourselves healed up and go on and take care of our business! We have some great opportunities ahead to prove we're still the best team in the country! Flush this loss out our memories and focus forward! Our goals are still very much intact! Let's take care of business, Dawgs! Let's freakin' go!
So many variables with these young men, all of whom have different personalities, ambitions and fears. Throw the NIL aspect into the equation, and it is very hard to coach/influence them. Someone is always in their ear. They are not a bunch of recruits in boot camp who can be motivated at will. All teams are experiencing the same thing, just a matter of when it shows up on the schedule. Kirby might have been emotionally drained after last week as well. For whatever reason, 3/4 of the game looked like some of our Dawgs wanted to be elsewhere. Believe it or not, I am still savoring that win over Bama despite the loss yesterday. We will be fine! Go Dawgs!
Tell me we ARE fine after the Florida skirmish? Georgia generally does not play well after the breaks.
This was a week of lost focus. For everyone. This stuff is repetitive. You don't forget to pursue. You don't forget to tackle. You don't forget to protect the ball. The Dawgs were asleep and it caught up to them. Kirby preached it but nobody listened. Which is troubling. Maybe now he has their attention. It's hard to be downtrodden when the checks keep rolling in.
Wow, I didn't realize that we've fumbled six (6) times in the past two games. That's troubling. But Gunner's performance yesterday is troubling because he and Kirby say that he wasn't bothered by the first-play hit or his shoulder stinger. So, they say, he was healthy. Which begs the question, if he was completely sound, why so off in his play. Not just the turnovers, which were bad enough, but the overthrows to wide open receivers (Phillips and Dandridge), as well as taking deep sideline shots to obviously well-covered receivers, and inexplicably running off the field when the entire stadium saw we were lining up for a field goal? If nothing was wrong with him, what exactly was he thinking and seeing? Even the final fumble he had resulted from a bad decision. Watching live, the play looks like a designed quarterback draw. But watching the play again, frame by frame, it's clear that it was a pass play with five receivers, including Dwight Phillips, all running various routes. But it's ALSO CLEAR that on his own, Stockton decides — almost immediately — that he's going to run the ball. You can tell that a pass was called because all of the lineman remain in pass pro, and all of the receivers are turning around to look for a pass. None of them are firing off to block downfield, as they would if the play were a designed run. Looking at the play, Stockton wasn't under pressure or "flushed" from the pocket. It's like you can see in his mind that he just decided, on his own, to run the ball. I'd love to hear an explanation as to why he did so, becausesqwjhaswx four of his five receivers were open on the play, one (Dandridge) for an easy first down that would have put the Dawgs in field goal range.
