ATHENS — Nate Frazier was physically back on the field for the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday.

We have one ball carrier with vision and speed. Possibly another that's young. The others are good college backs. Not great vision. Decent speed. The O line seems to block different when Phillips is in the game. I think they know the difference.
Yes, if we can't effectively run the ball then we are going to struggle going forward, especially when it comes to explosive plays. You can't effectively and consistently have one without the other.
I didn't realize that Bowens was so injured and a long way from returning. That puts us into an almost worst position than we had during the season last year when our RB room was banged up as well. Kirby is going to have to give Peal, Walker, and Lamar more playing time, because Frazier is definitely not 100% and Dwight cannot keep being the sole hero. We've got to get back to an effective multiple RB running game or we will not make it winning the games that we need to win to even make it into the playoffs.
Frazier looked very good at the beginning of the season. More decisive, one cut and explode. On Saturday he regressed to his old self. Hopefully it was rust. Otherwise, Phillips needs to be the new number 1.
Has there been any explanation for why Walker hardly played?
So much for the hyped Georgia juggernaut. Pathetic execution…weak defensive secondary…tackling non existent. A two-loss, non-ranked team, beats the vaunted #1 team in the nation! Gunner needed to be benched…he was in a different ethos. RBs may as well have not played. This did not look like the Bama beaters I watched week before!!! I will also use the excuse..they were banged up….yeah that was it. This team, as is, will get flattened by Florida! IMO.
All I can say is I am very glad we don't have to play Tennessee, KY, or LSU!
We might limp into the playoffs even losing one more game…but let's hope it doesn't come to that. Hoping some rest, re-focus on fundamentals, and the extra week off gives the Dawgs the juice they need to FINISH THE DRILL!!
It seems Phillips played. 10 carries for 68 yards & a TD. Keep hearing we can't use him too much due to size, but bet likely could've handled 15 carries vs. AU. And 5 more from him could've made a difference vs. 5 that went to others and got nothing. Would've like to have seen more of Walker. How a guy like him rips through Bama multiple times and is barely seen on a day we're struggling to run boggles my mind.
I want to know what the coaching knuckleheads are doing to fix their performance.
We always said that this year was on the coaching staff.
It still is.
Don't complain about RB performance if you have depth you just don't use for some unknown reason
Maybe some 5:00 am mat drills will help as well!!!
At this point in the season, I'd have an RB competition every game….rotate every RB in the depth chart….the RB that has the most yards per carry gets the most snaps. We have so many excellent TE's….why aren't they targeted more???? I'd like to see more 13 personnel formations for pass and runs….how bout Gunner hands off to the RB, the RB throws it back to Gunner and he hit a TE/WR or runs???? Without a doubt, Georgia has more talent riding the bench than any team in D-1.
Dude, you beat me to it. Was coming here to say EXACTLY this. Phillips could have easily handled 5 more carries. And Bo Walker could have, too, just to give Phillips some rest. Griffin and others keep saying Georgia's running attack was below par Saturday. But as you noted, Phillips averaged 6.8 yards per carry on 10 carries. That's pretty doggone good. Let's say he carries 15 times for even 80 yards, that's still over 5 yards per carry which, again, is pretty good. Maybe Frazier gets better, maybe he doesn't. But AT THE MOMENT, Dwight Phillips is our best running back, and we should game plan accordingly. Also, Griffin's story mentions how Kirby said he needs more players to play winning football. I thought that was odd when I heard Kirby say it Saturday night because all year, all that anyone has talked about is our depth. How we can just rotate bodies in and out, "next man up" mentality and all that. Now, all of a sudden at crunch time, we only have five O-linemen (I guess the starters) that Kirby trusts. And I guess he's looking for some D-linemen to step up. I just wonder what happened to that so-called depth that everyone talked about, although I think most people misinterpret what that means. Depth is not just having a bunch of people at a certain position. True depth is having several people at a position that you can count on to play up to your standards, i.e. "winning football." That we may not have that at this point in the season is concerning.
Man, the doom and gloom, we are done for and will never win another game nonsense from some of you people is amazing. Not everyone, to be clear, but many of you. Yeah, we $ucked. Bad. But we did for this game, not every game. I’m not making excuses but it was ONE GAME and I don’t know just how bad auburn really is at this point. And the nonsense against Frazier is silly. You seem to forget that, had ole miss not intentionally hurt him in the playoffs (because they did), we win because he was killing them. He was killing everyone this year but he got hurt and doesn’t seem to be over it, physically and/or mentally. Dang, the bandwagon mentality on these pages is crazy.
@87dawg…well, I wouldn't call it doom and gloom as much as the #1 team in the nation completely melting down against an unranked team…at HOME. This loss was not really on most people's radar, but the WAY we lost, giving up 24 unanswered points, not being able to run the ball consistently very well, being gashed by 192 yards rushing, turnovers, penalties, poor tackling…do I need to go on???
One of the worst losses in Kirby's career without a doubt. We have enough margin for error to probably lose another game, but beyond that is probably less than a 50-50 chance.
Reality bites.
Dawg fans are so fickle, Auburn was better than us Saturday. If we played em 10 times we’d beat em 9 times. We as a team had a very bad day. It happens, anyone who’s ever strapped on on knows this. We’ll heal up physically and mentally and get after it again against Florida.
Very much into over reaction time still, aren't most all of us. I certainly am.
It was the worst lose in a rather long time. That doesn't mean we can't overcome it and have a good to great season, but it certainly means there are plenty of reasons to be concerned. Terrible game. Plenty of questions.
Where are the answers? No idea.
Go, Dawgs!
