ATHENS — Kirby Smart ranks as one of the top defensive minds in college football, a fact that probably intrigued many of the NFL general managers the Georgia head football coach disclosed he met with this offseason. File that one away, for now. But in new Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning, Smart believes he

Arguably, what makes Clemson Bama's equal is not the players, Saban and Dabo have had years to stock their cupboards with top shelf talent. The difference is the relative stability of the coaching staff at Clemson. By hiring young rising stars and promoting from within, Kirby is setting the Dawgs up for the best of both worlds...top shelf talent in three short years rather than more than a decade for Saban and Dabo, AND a cohesive coaching staff. Eventually, schools will come knocking, but I doubt Kirby will ever have Saban's problem of having to replace coordinators and many of his position coaches on a yearly basis. As great as Bama's been under Saban, staff turnover has to affect the team leading to close calls against very young Bulldogs and defeats to Clemson two of the past three years.

    EricDawgs1,

Unfortunately, I took my family to the Sugar Bowl so I disagree that it “meant nothing”. We were humiliated in every aspect of the game. The Texas fans who outnumbered us 3:1 enjoyed chanting “SEC, SEC, SEC” all night long in the French Quarter. I sincerely regret spending thousands of dollars to find out afterwards it was only an “exhibition” game. Obviously no one told the Longhorns and national press corps the game didn’t count. Thus, the hated Gators finished the season ranked higher than our Dawgs. I’m a diehard UGa fan and former letterman (in a different sport), but I was embarrassed to claim the team that was a “no show” in New Orleans. Hopefully this type of BS never happens again. Go Dawgs!!!
