imageJalen Carter continues to improve and that should terrify SEC offenses

When Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt both announced they would return for another season, it did have the unintended consequence of eating into some potential snaps for sophomore defensive lineman Jalen Carter. Carter arrived at Georgia in 2020 as a 5-star signee out of Apopka, Fla. In an age where transfers are more

UGA needs a big year out of it's DL, to off set the growth that the secondary is having to go through. If anybody taped this year's Super Bowl, go to it and watch how Tampa Bay shut down the high scoring offense of the Kansas City Chiefs. The DL of Tampa Bay just destroyed the Chiefs. UGA has the talent Kirby, it's time to "Let The Dawgs Out".

A maturing Jalen Carter means trouble for opposing teams. He is extremely strong and quick. The D line can surely use his ferocity and intensity. He is a very good Dawg. Walker depicted him well. Jalen will see increasing playing time. He will become a difference-maker.

@tommielee, I understand what you are saying about Tampa's DL in the Super Bowl against the Chiefs. But let's not get it twisted, the Chiefs were playing without both starting tackles. If you don't think that is significant, just look at our line last year when we had several starters out for stretches. Made a big differnce when we played Alabama and Florida...

    Go Dawgs!!!

BTW, I know everyone is high on the the offense and rightfully so after JT came in but the best unit on the team is the D-line by far. We could easily have 3 guys go in the top 3rds of the draft next year.

Tray Scott came to Georgia, and several fans and analysts truly overlooked and severely underrated Coach Scott coming out of UNC. That was the case especially as he had a few big "misses" during his first couple seasons here at Georgia in the recruiting department. He was able to secure some solid classes as a whole, but Scott and UGA were still losing out on some of the biggest battles to their surrounding competitors..

Even with that being said, slowly but surely Scott has started to close the gap, winning more and more of those contested and heated recruiting battles, and it has led to him rising up the ranks each and every season!! Starting in 2019, we have seen Scott pull out at least one big name, and excluding last season, possibly due to COVID, he has started to typically get the higher rated prospects he has targeted. The biggest wins were getting Five Star prospects Walker, Carter, and rising four star Tyron-Ingram Dawkins...

Those recruiting battle victories look like they are just the beginning for Scott and UGA, as you can see below Tray Scott has positioned himself and UGA to possibly sign one of the best, highest rated DL classes EVER ASSEMBLED!!!!

    2018- B.Cox, A.Ojulari, Jordan Davis, D.Wyatt, T.Walthour

    2019- N.Smith, T.Walker, B.Norton, J.Johnson, T.Mitchell, Z.Logue

    2020- J.Carter, N.Stackhouse, W.Brinson

    2021- J.Jefferson, T-I.Dawkins, M.Dean

    2022- T.West, B.Alexander, and D.Smith

Alongside the three previously mentioned high ceiling prospects, rated as the 5th, 8th, and 14th best prospects for their positions, Scott has also put UGA squarely in the running for the Nation's #2 OVR prospect and the #1 DT in Walter Nolan, the #5 OVR prospect and #1 SDE in Shemar Stewart, the #8 OVR prospect and #2 DT in Travis Shaw, the #12 OVR prospect and #1 in WDE Jeremiah Alexander, the #42 OVR prospect and #4 DT in Mykel Williams, and the #164 OVR prospect and #11 DT in Christen Miller.

Scott could end up acquiring a LEGENDARY DL class for UGA come time for this classes NSD In 2022. However, Scott is a very busy man, and he isn't remotely content going after those guys, because he is also getting a huge head start on the 2023 class as well!!!

2023- Is already looking like it could be a smaller, yet high quality DL haul too, especially with Scott already snatching up a promising and rising young DT prospect in Seven Cloud. Not to mention, Coach Scott is also currently after 5-star and the #1 OVR recruit in Lebbeus Overton. Plus, he is already building relationships and putting UGA in the driver's seat to possibly sign a few more high 4 stars like WDE Malik Bryant, SDE Derrick LeBlanc, SDE Justin Benton, and DT Vic Burley among others...If he in fact nails his 2022 record class, he can afford to just solely focus on his bigger targets like Overton, Bryant, Benton, Burley, and then call it a class...

Either way, Tray Scott was not a big name in DL coaching circles when the Dawgs hired him away from UNC, BUT he has DEFINITELY put his name on the map as one of the top DL Coaches in the Country with the work he has done over the past few seasons!!

Also, starting with this upcoming NFL Draft, and especially next year's NFL Draft, we will really start to see Scott's hard work start to pay off for UGA!! The Dawgs should once again start seeing their DL getting drafted MUCH earlier on, and this should really only help Scott with future recruits. That will be the case, especially watching Jordan Davis and Travon Walker easily going in the first two rounds, and likely D.Wyatt and Herring going in the later rounds as well...!!

Let us just hope Kirby Smart's most recent coaching addition in Coach Addae continues to follow the same path as Coach Scott; if so, he could quickly become a real asset, regardless whether it is Dan Lanning or whether he leaves for a HC gig and Will Muschamp gets handed the keys to lead this Dawgs defense moving forward!! Either way, I have the funny feeling, the Dawgs opponents won't be moving forward nearly at the same rate!!

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a DL of Walker, Carter, Davis, and N.Smith this upcoming season with Wyatt mixing in, and then Anderson,m and even Beal sometimes mixing it up wreaking havoc off the edges!!

I find it very interesting that Connor Riley would even suggest the possibility of a Jalen Carter transfer due to returning players, playing time or snap count. Even the most novice football fan knows that you need a DL rotation and that Jalen Carter will get as many snaps as any DL on the UGA roster based on skill alone. Not even mentioning his versatility. And that is before anyone missing time with injuries. Jalen Carter knows that. Everybody knows that. Except, apparently, Connor Riley.

@WayxATLdawg89, not twisted, I believe even if the Chiefs had their starting tackles in the Super Bowl. the Tampa Bay DL would still have manhandled them. In the two losses last year it was mainly QB play that cost the Dawgs.
