A “monster” was used in the old monster defense back in the day. It was used mostly for unbalanced offenses.
The defense would shift to stay balanced with the offensive formations. It was done so when the “monster” would say monster left or right....the defense would then shift to the offensive formation to adjust or stay balanced.
The star position is more like the old rover position.....as you don’t see as too many unbalanced lines these days.
Good reference though...the “monster”, rover and star positions have mostly the same responsibilities.
Hopes the position change works out for him.....wishes he would add more weight and work more as a edge rusher.....he is dynamite there.
