ATLANTA — Georgia coach Kirby Smart told his team the 41-24 loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game was a “wake-up call” on Saturday afternoon.

Conservative? Really? What I saw was Stets HAVING to throw into coverage and into tight windows all night. Pickens? He was no better than the rest at creating separation.
Whine like little girls about Kirby not going to JT! Who was he going to throw to? Were the receivers going to magically going to do something for him they couldn’t do for Bennett? One thing is for sure, if Kirby had gone to JT the sacks would have gone way up. A strong arm and quick release are worthless without receivers that can create at least a modicum of separation. The only way JT could have helped tonight was if he could run routes and get open.
Mike, I think the 'conservative' style that Kirby and Monken showed today was probably due to the more limited offensive plays and game plan that has to be deployed when Stetson is QB. We are not going to win a shootout nor do we have an explosive offense with Stetson at the helm. As much as I like Stet, he proved to me today that he is definitely not elite nor is he the kind of QB to win a NC. He just doesn't have the skills. Even though I'm not convinced Daniels can bring us home a Natty, JT needs to start for us in the playoffs. We've got nothing to lose at this point.
All you have to do is look at every team that has won a NC during the playoff years, and you will see an elite QB at the helm.

Of all the UGA football I have seen both in person and on TV, I have never been more shocked and disappointed in a program than I am in this one tonight. This team is completely unprepared to play in a championship. Completely out coached and out played. I'm sick of it.

Spot on MontanaDawg....as usual. Bennett needs to walk away and take up a nice cushy plumbing career. He is no match for elites. Kirby needs to wipe the sand from his eyes. He thinks Stetson just need to improve??? What??? Oh my, forget 2022...if this kid stays on. Maybe Brock Vandagriff can be developed? By whom? I sort of feel JT will leave. Just have that feeling.

Kirby has built UGA into a program that can beat every team in America BUT Bama. And the only way we beat Bama is to be able to counter their explosive plays and win in a shoot out. No D no matter how elite will beat an elite offense, yet Kirby STILL is in denial about that fact. And the only way to get explosive plays is to get elite QBs and WRs - which we DO NOT have and which we CANNOT recruit to UGA. What's wrong with this picture is Kirby's worldview on how to win. He believes an elite D and an average O is better than an elite O and an average D....that's it. Nothing else will change until Kirby changes his worldview. Get used to being #2, because we are no where close to #1 and won't be for a long time at this rate!
Again, it's the little things that separate Daniels and Bennett. Having the quicker release really does make a difference; it's a major reason why we couldn't get a decent pass rush on Young. And wide receivers not getting separation? With a more accurate passer, those receivers WILL BE open, or he can throw them open. I GUARANTEE that if JT Daniels and George Pickens both start, George will have more than 2 catches and and they'll be substantial catches, too. I LOVE Brock Bowers, but there is NO WAY a true freshman tight end should be our leading receiver -- and by a lot! And speaking of accuracy, it seems like a small thing but Bennett almost always underthrows the deep ball. It happened on the one Pickens actually caught. It happened on the Ladd McConkey interference call. Had Bennett put that where it should have been, it would have been a touchdown. Those things tend to get overlooked because we all cheer the interference call, or the receiver makes a great catch -- like the first half catch by Bowers when he hurt himself leaping for a high pass when he was wide open -- but in big games like today, those seemingly small things make a difference. Play Daniels and I'm pretty sure we'll do better than 25 percent conversion on 3rd down. And while Daniels may throw an interception -- because all quarterbacks do -- it won't be because he was fooled by the defense. When he returned in the Missouri game, people talked about the rust he had on him. And he did. But if Kirby would have just rolled with him from that point and let him work off the rust, we would have won all of our regular season games -- just like we did with Bennett -- and I'm willing to bet we would have won today. I'll trade Daniels' oft-stated lack of mobility for his stronger, more accurate arm and overall better football IQ. Go Dawgs!
Not really sure what game you were watching. Wrs consistently got open all game Bennett just can’t throw. Bama loaded the box and left themselves exposed many times Bennett just can’t get the ball downfield. On his first interception mcconkey is wide open in the end zone and calling for the ball. The drive after that Pickens was wide open for six and Stetson threw the ball away without even looking at him. At some point the Rudy shenanigans has to stop you cannot win with a walk-on at qb.
Wrong. Those teams ended up in those bowls because that's where they belonged. This team was Kirby's best. It had everything in front of them. To finally show the world that there is no talent gap and we could take out Alabama. Instead they wet the bed. Alabama has become the new Florida.

Way too conservative defensive gameplan. How did they come into this game and not go after Young right from the start?
Watching Michigan steamroll Iowa. Not sure how you cannot move them up to number 1. Bama at 2. Cinn at 3 and then UGA backs into #4. Georgia is lucky that there is not another deserving 1 loss team. If OSU had beaten Oregon, UGA would be watching the playoffs and playing Baylor again in the Sugar Bowl.
There’s Truth in what you say whether people want to see it or not. People ASSUME that JT would be an upgrade over Stets with IF they are honest Very little work Shown by JT before he came to UGA and since he’s been at UGA. We simply Don’t Know. HOWEVER Kirby Did blow it Big Time by not getting JT into Numerous games and Early so that he could be Properly Evaluated in Real game action. PLUS no amount of blame on Stets removes the 34 points that the Dawgs Defense allowed. I don’t mean to sound like a broken record but Auburn made Bama go to 4 OTs to beat them and they only scored 22 points Not the 30+ points that Some Dawgs fans have indicated are some sort of Requirement. If the Dawgs D contained Young and stopped him and held him to say 14 points or you can even add in the pick 6 (7) by Stets would not the Dawgs have won 24-21 ?? No this was a Team loss and a Kirby Smart Failure !! And KIRBY allowed and placed Stets as the starting QB !! What was Stets supposed to say No Coach I Refuse to be your QB ??!!?? I think it’s Convenient for Some Dawgs fans to vent their frustration out on Stets. And Assume that JT would have done better with Zero, Zilch, Nada, Nothing to SHOW he was a better choice than that he was a 5 star at a west coast high school and did fairly decent in his limited time at USC and limited time in games since being at UGA. Now he Might well have done better. He just might have. SO did Kirby keep JT on the bench for a Valid reason ?? Or did Kirby go with Stets because of the wonderful story line ?? IF it’s the later of those two questions then Kirby Smart GROSSLY failed his Team and Dawg Nation !! AND all that doesn’t answer Why the Defense ( Kirby’s specialty) just totally Fell apart !! P.S. Saw a couple of Dawgs fans comment “Like Mark Richt”. NO Mark Richt won TWO SEC Titles and another SECE Title in HIS first five years at UGA !! And they’d was no playoff system when Mark was here. And the Powers at UGA have just tremendously rolled out the $$& for Kirby where Mark had to plead and beg. So Until Kirby bests Mark Richt record I don’t think that’s very fair to Mark !! I have Nothing against Kirby. I’m Very glad he’s the HC at UGA. But it’s Time for Kirby to take a long look in the mirror and challenge HIMSELF to be Elite !! Lastly Kirby needs to start JT the next game and See what he can do. I hope JT can be Very successful. I Want the Dawgs to WIN !! The Defense has GOT to do light years better to !!
I don't often agree with you Mike, because you mostly write stuff for clicks...BUT THIS ONE IS 100% THE TRUTH. Kirby has squandered 3 leads against Bama with zero to show for it because he's doesn't know how to adjust when he get's behind. He can't manage the QB position and I have ZERO idea why the defense looked so slow and uninterested. Missed tackles, poor angles, and a secondary that looked uttlerly lost like they'd never played football before. Inexplicable. It's like Kirby coaches himself OUT of games instead of going for the jugular like Saban. Bama definitely smelled blood in the water after that first blown coverage and instead of adjusting, the defense looked even more lost. The bottom line: Bama EXPECTS to win while UGA hopes to win. I thought this was our year, but UGA isn't beating Bama if given another chance and Michigan will blow Kirby out just like today. Michigan's D and O are much better than Bama's. Maybe STET will stay another year while we lose two more 5 stars to the portal. Wouldn't surprise me a bit. I have a good friend who said earlier this week that "Georgia always chokes in the big games" and I couldn't disagree. It's become a punchline and part of the Georgia brand unfortunately.
