Daniels got the start first game coming out of Spring practice and was injured. Bennett came in and did a great job. After that, why would Kirby replace him. You ride the horse that got you there. I'm good with that.
Then, after another full year in the program and what -9/10 games, the results against a good but not great Alabama defense were far from what was needed, and no better than the last game against the same team, and with the same Quarterback.
Kirby and Monken see the situation from the inside, and they know better than me. But, looking at it from the outside, it looks like it's time to try that other QB out, and see what he can do...
So let me get this straight. If Bennett was struggling, and Kirby put in another qb to try to spark the offense, and he, also struggled, Kirby would have been hammered for replacing a struggling qb? Stetson is. DGD. But he was not the qb uga needed to win a shootout, with Bama. Twice, when Bama was down two scores to uga, Saban inserted his backup. And both times, it worked. Saban was not afraid of hurting someone's feelings. He wanted to win.
I disagree. CKS is in his 6th(?) season as a head coach. Name all the other head coaches that have won championships or had their teams in the championship games twice in their 1st 6 yrs. Go ahead I'll wait. CKS is still ascending and his recruiting is already elite. Who do you recommend UGA hire that is better? Go ahead I'll wait. I said it at the beginning of the year and I will say it again. As long as Saban is at AL recruiting #1 classes , Alabama over the field is the smart bet EVERY YEAR. May just have to wait for Saban to retire.
One of the things that separates a good coach from a great coach is the ability to make adjustments both in preparation and during the game. This is what makes Saban a great coach and Kirby a good coach.
As to Bennett vs Daniels, the reaction would totally depend on the outcome of the game. It would have been the same if it was Tua vs Hurts had Bama lost
fans seem to think Kirby does not want to win. He makes what he considers to be the best decisions to accomplish that objective.
I wonder if they said the same thing about Saban and Swinney.
We need to keep things in perspective. UGA has a top-5 coach in Kirby, likely top-3. Take Saban out of the equation, and he already has a NC. Considering he's had to contend with the best college coach of all time, and it's only year-6, I think he's doing well.
The more I think about it, I'm kind of on the same page as @Vetdawg -- JT Daniels is hurt, far more than what we know. The fact that the coaches didn't even "consider" putting him in the game Saturday (nor did he look like he was ready to go in) speaks volumes. I hope the time off now will get him healthy, but if he hasn't been ready so far, I wonder what another 3 weeks is going to do? Kirby won't say because if JT does have to play and teams know he's injured, they'll simply disregard the deep ball and play everyone tight. Funny how we've gone from completely confident in the Dawgs to win it all -- and easily so -- to simply hoping they'll even make the national championship game.
Agree. To expect more from CKS vs Saban/AL is extremely optimistic. Mentioning Swinney in the same sentence with Saban is pretty funny. That "Aw shucks, let's pray together" fake Swinney is a total pretender who has been exposed this season. Swinney built his whole house of cards program on 2 All World amateur QB's from GA. Those 2 great college QB's were able to deliver in 2 of the 7(?) years they competed in college. Apropos considering what we saw in the SECCG that pitted a 5* Heisman favorite against a less than all American amateur QB. And people expect UGA to beat AL?! QB is king in CFB.
I said the week before the game that Auburn gave BAMA fits because they had corners who could go toe- to-toe with BAMA's receivers. I knew we didn't do that so much, we played zone. I stated that if we give young time to throw, he will carve us up. Sadly, it proved true. I'm not sure what we can do to change things other than some kind of bracket on Jameson. Some kind of triangle approach.
If we blitz Dean that opens up the middle for the TE and underneath receivers. The loss of Anderson can't be understated. #4 has to show up next time (if we get past Michigan). They will play with their hair on fire. They will try to muscle us on the run and hit the big play once we bring the safeties down. But all in all, they don't have the big play ability of BAMA, of course unless you bust your coverage.
We got down there twice (Close to the redzone) late in the game and bogged down without scoring. Maybe a better QB converts those opportunities. Just say'n.
