What transfer decision of Jermaine Burton really says about Georgia football wide receiver room

Burton left because he wasn't being used enough, and he saw the writing on the wall for next season...more QB uncertainty. Even Monken's high flying offensive philosophy - on paper - looks great but wasn't even truly deployed this season. You can't run a heavy pass offense when you don't have a capable enough QB and enough elite WRs. Over the last several seasons Bama is the one that has become the aggressive pass offense with incredible receivers.

Of course Burton would go to Bama. Why wouldn't he?

We can't ever seem to have consistency in our QB room to take advantage of the most elite receivers out there. If I was a top receiver that expected to get plenty of reps, Georgia wouldn't really be on my radar. If we get our QB house in order with someone who has an arm for a weapon, then the receivers will line up to come to Georgia. Until then forget it. We'll be playing catchup with the likes of Bama when it comes to that type of offense.

I haven't said, or wrote a word about Burton and the portal. I'm withholding my opinion until he lands somewhere, and probably won't comment then, because I don't care where the guy (not kid) goes.

Mark Richt said it best about transferring players (not kids) - "I only want players at Georgia who want to be Bulldogs." Same here, Coach.

Also, it would be nice to not be included with whoever had a **** remark about a player. So, Terrence, why not name the idiot and save the other 10M Dawg fans from getting scolded. Thanks in advance.

Actually @T_Dawg , Coach Smart doesn't think (or at least, talk) like most fans. He actually said that it would be a good thing, in some cases, for some of these players to transfer. Coach Smart gets it. He can only have 85 scholarship players on the team at a time, so just simple math means that somebody is going to have to transfer. Even with those transferring and going to the NFL, the Dawgs are STILL over the 85 limit, or they will be once all the incoming freshmen arrive. Everyone who leaves doesn't hate UGA. Sometimes, it's just a better situation for them and the team. Best (and classy) thing to do is what Smart does, wish them well and then cheer for the next man up. Go Dawgs!

Replace him with Javon Baker, a 4-star WR Bama plucked out of Georgia... I think he's sitting in the portal. Decent size, good hands and routes, sufficient speed. Bring him back home where he belongs. Go Dawgs!

BB will get 10 because he’s a matchup nightmare. Burtons skill set although very good, has always been limited and he’s struggled a bit against SEC competition. I personally thought he’d progress moving into next year and really push for a 1000+ yard season; but business is business. And BB gets more “business” because he’s better for “business”.

Have to agree with hooch, no one that has left UGA has blossomed.

Look at the QB situation, no one to rifle the ball to speedy, skilled receivers, Fromm and Bennett have been game managers. Don't see any UGA QB's starting in the NFL, Bama has a couple and a Heisman winner.

What's not to understand, then there's NIL

Astounding to me that no one, whether in the UGA orbit or national sports shows, has paid any attention to the actual timing of the news from yesterday. JT Leaves... Stetson Stays... JB Leaves. All within what, an hour? Who went to Cali to work out w/JT and bond with the group? Jermaine. Who threw him the ball? JT. Nobody has any inkling that these two are moving on as a package deal? Goodness. Hello! Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and others...... Just sayin'.....

You will always have ‘team’ players and you’ll ‘me’ players. You always hear there is no ‘I’ in team, well, there may not be an I but dang sure is a ‘me’ in it! Burton made a business decision that will most likely pay him well. Talented young man!

People say Bennett doesn't have the height to make all the throws. That's BS. Bryce Young is a half inch taller than Bennett, if that, and he won the Heisman. So that tired old excuse doesn't hold water. If JT played against Bama, his lack of mobility would be on full display. Bama would have dropped him 10X. We saw what JT can do offensively against a good defense. Clemson. 3 points. Let Burton go if he wants. I bet D Rob wishes he'd stayed.

Not worried about the WR situation but am about which QB's transfer after spring.
