ATHENS — There’s nothing controversial about Stetson Bennett’s decision to return to Georgia.

This is a good article—fair and balanced. 👍
Go Stetson! Go Dawgs! 2022 repeat! 🙏🏻
We have a QB room full of quality guys! I can't wait to see who is left standing at the end of the summer - I know this, it will be fun to enter the season as defending Nat'l Champions! GO DAWGS!
Great article MG.
I am honestly so jazzed to have SBIV, Carson, Brock, and Gunner in the same room... what a stable! The combination of experience, perseverance, raw talent, and deep football knowledge means whoever starts against Oregon will have the collective wisdom and drive of a group that would be hard to find anywhere else, even if we do nothing in the portal for QB. Probably true with or without Beck, but I still think the four of them will make for even more of a world-beater... steel sharpens steel! 😁
For another QB to start ahead of Stet, it has to be a clear knockout. If it is close and goes to the scorecards, the judges always favor the champion!
It is obvious that SB loves to play football and at UGA. I wish him well in 2022...as I do Brock Vandagriff and Carson Beck. What a stable.
I'm thankful for Bennett coming back for 2022. He should be that much better and if he can improve his third down passing, he can become a lethal weapon.
I'm also excited to see how much progress Beck and Vandergriff have made. If one of them beats Bennett out, the team will be better for it. If Bennett holds the job, the team will be better because he returned.
It's great to be a Georgia Bull Dawg!
I, too, am thankful for Bennett, and I'd be happy with him at QB next year.
For me, the best part of our QB situation is that Beck, Bennett and Vandagriff are all willing (as best as I can tell) to duke it out this spring. It should make for the kind of competition that will give us a solid answer at QB for '22. I'm assuming Stockton will have a year of growing to do, but he could be in the mix for next year as well.
Go Bennett Go all Dawgs!
Best article MG has ever written concerning Stet -- gone is the negative focus. The only comment I would make is that in the following sentence I would replace ..sees himself.. with ...has proven himself... "Of course Bennett sees himself as an equal, as someone who is capable and not needing any special favors or treatment."
I am thrilled that Stet is coming back! He has earned the right to come & compete for the qb position! He is a DGD!!!
GO DAWGS!!!
Dang MG, did you really write this article? I’m impressed that you have finally been converted to the Church of St. Stetson. I’m impressed with you are seeing the light. Peace be with you brother 😉
Here’s an interesting pearl to all the fans who think we don’t pass enough. In our toughest games (Bama x2, Michigan and Clemson) we averaged close to 35 passes a game. Bryce Young averaged 36 passes/game over the season and averaged 52 passes in the 2 games he lost. In the CG Bryce threw 57 passes because they only had 30 yards rushing on 29 attempts. The reason we don’t pass a lot is because we killed all our other opponents and had no reason to put the ball in the air….not because of it being a weakness.
Looks and sounds great now.......lets reevaluate this summer and see how many QBs are left at the start of fall.
I've come to accept that this is the type of player and playbook Smart is interested in doing, so I would like Smart to directly accept that and try and not recruit QBs that he knows doesn't fit the model. Look at Bama. Every year you see the starter and then the backup which comes the starter next year if the main starter doesn't return. Saban gets the people he wants and that true Freshman star KNOWS whether he is going to start or not. We, on the other hand, have endless drama and messes. We'll grab every Top QB and then they leave when they don't secure the starting spot. It's a mess. I'm hoping we DON'T get a star QB transfer because then it'll just create more resentment. Take the 3 VERY good QBs you have now and let Vandagriff and Stockton know that they are going to get their shot.
In terms of NIL deal, I think Bennett turned people sour with his GMA interview. Between the fact that he seemed still drunk (understandable) as well as his seemingly arrogant attitude didn't put him in the best spotlight. This was his time to sell himself as the "Rudy" type player and I think it backfired on him. Only time will tell as to whether that's true or not.
Media wants him to be the "Rudy" player and be the Heisman-like player, but the fact is that he did a good job at what Smart designed him to do - manage the game. We didn't win because of him, but we didn't lose either. He did a "B" graded job, but the team wasn't built for high profiling passing and so we didn't need to win because of it.
Anyway, enough said on the topic. Bennett doesn't need to say another thing and I don't really want him asked another question. TALK TO VANDAGRIFF. The spotlight needs to be on him now.
