The fan base is there, in state talent is there, only thing missing is a coach who can take advantage of those. I agree with every post stating Jonas Hayes. Hayes has been an Assistant coach at UGA, familiarity with the program, would recruit in state talent better. He definitely couldn't do any worse than Crean has as Head Coach. If Brooks keeps Crean as coach, he may not be AD long making a decision like that.

What is the likely budget for a UGA head basketball coach? That will tell how serious UGA is about making this a competitive program.

Jonas Hayes was a big part of Mark Fox's #1 class, for which he got fired by McGarity...It's all about recruiting. Coach Crean's recruiting skillset just didn't play well at all at UGA. Even with Jonas Hayes, assistant coaching staff and administrative support are question marks at this time. Go Dawgs! Maybe Kirby has a round ball coach sniffed out for us.

Hayes...Gates...toss up. UGA does not necessarily need a "feel-good" hire from a former Georgian. They need someone who can recruit, develop and successfully coach at the SEC college level. Crean has a name....but clould not get the job done. He started well but was not consistent. He always seemed to have the same lament after losing game after game. I will admit, injuries to top players plagued him. Josh Brooks did not extend his contract. He is out. I understand they are already seeking a new coach.

I only have 1 question.. Is UGA willing to spend the money to get a Head coach who is a proven winner? If not, we may see the same results in the future from the men's basketball team.

Fork out the money for a proven winner and it will pay for itself in the end. Matter of fact, go ahead and get a new women’s basketball coach too. Too much talent on that team to end the season like that.

Step 1: Commit to improving the basketball facilities. Step 2: Hire a name coach that can recruit the vast talent located in GA. If Deion can build a recruiting juggernaut at Jackson St then a splash coach can build the program at UGA. Auburn is top 5 this year with 3 kids from GA starting. UGA had a pretty good team in '20. Then they all transferred out.

Uh, OK, Mike. It's a football school.

WRONG! It's a football, tennis (M & W), gymnastics, swimming, softball, baseball, and basketball school. What, UGA B-Ball coaches can't coach because they've swallowed a football? The whole notion is silly.

Sure, Kirby's ego sucks the oxygen out of anything within a mile of him but sports are all about strong-willed people.

    Gonzaga's enrollment is 7, 421.

The answer is NOT to go looking for a big NAME coach. But find a coach who can coach, who players listen to and believe in.

UGA is not going to hire Coach K. But they might hire the NEXT Coach K, if they know what they're doing.

Jerry Stackhouse's Vanderbilt just beat UGA by 35 pts. Stackhouse coached AAU ball in GA. His son went to N Gwinnett HS. There's your next UGA coach.
