Crean seemed to start on a high note at various colleges then would be fired a few years later. Same scenario here. Many would like to see Jonas Hayes take the job. I shed no tears for Crean who gets over a $3 million buy out.

I really liked Coach Fox, but his teams were never really exciting, but rather deliberate. So, when Coach Crean came in, the difference in playing style created a lot of excitement in the fans. Both of them seemed to like coaching at UGA, but neither of them was able to translate their coaching style into consistent winning seasons. I would love to see Coach Hayes coaching his alma mater, but I don't know if he could get us "over the hump" . In this day and age, very much like football, recruiting is the secret to success. That includes supporting players as well as the "stars". Crean did not have enough supporting cast for Anthony Edwards. Maybe there is an answer in the transfer portal among basketball players. One or two "one and dones" every year with a solid team around them may be the answer. We will have to have some very good players who will spend a few years on the team. One or two stars without a good team around them won't work. Crean proved that with Edwards. To be successful, our next coach will have to be able to recruit not only superstar players, but also some players who have the work ethic to be developed into good players.

Georgia is going to need an excellent Xs and Os guy- you can’t beat teams trying to out score them unless you have better athletes and unfortunately, that’s not where Georgia is right now. I think that’s what hurt Crean.

I wish we could we could get to the point where we could get more “Edwards” but its going to take a system guy to at least play .500 ball right now. IMO

Crean was between Fox's rock and a hard place. 1) Ignore the AAU, keep your name and your Program clean, and watch the talent go straight to Bruce Pearl's AU program. Or 2) Win and win like Pearl and AU, get caught, pretend you didn't know, throw your assistants under the bus, make even more $Millions, and get named "Coach For Life." It's simple at AU lol.

UGA on the other hand, wants results like #2, while running your program 1) like the Pope (well not this pope). Pull the Pearl BS, and get yourass fired in Athens. But just watch, we will do the same thing all over again this time. Grab a successful HC, who finds out he can't win at UGA without somehow competing with "you know who" for Atlanta AAU talent. So he does #1) and gets fired in 5 years, or goes #2) and gets fired in 3 years.

    Go Dawgs!

Georgia needs to go all in for Scott Drew of Baylor. With the Big 12 imploding, he is obtainable. Buy him a house, a jet, helicopter, country club membership, any cars he & his family want & guarantee him that he will be the highest paid coach in basketball for the next 10 years. Considering the job this man has done at Baylor (which is likely the best job any coach has ever done in any sport) if he can't turn the Georgia program around, then it can't be done.

Someone at Dawgnation should do a story on his efforts as the leader of the Baylor program & how he pulled them out of hell leading them to multiple NCAA tourneys, an NIT title & winners of the big dance after the program had been decapitated & left in an unmarked grave. The scandals at Baylor make Georgia's issues look like a player spilled his protein shake on the training table. Drugs, death threats, extortion, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, bribes, lies, murder & just about every possible cheating violation you can imagine. It's a miracle they escaped the death penalty.
