Thanks Connor for the positive article regarding Bennett. It’s interesting how last year Stetson blew away most of the QBs on the upcoming 2022 preseason lists when it came to their QBRs. He was rated in the top 4 while a player like Kedon Slovis wasn’t even in the top 80 yet Kedon is predicted to be better than the Mailman next season….go figure. I agree that much of the player hype is based on their “stars” eventhough JT Daniels has also been left off most of those lists. Bennett definitely could have had much more gaudy statistics in 2021 if we hadn’t played “conservative” (due to huge leads) in the 4th quarter of practically every game. Go Dawgs!!!

Stetson delivered the mail, had great stats, won the national championship, and was the MVP in two playoff games.

It's easy to see why the media would ignore him.

    Go, Dawgs!

The good news is that Stetson doesn't give a crap. At least not publicly. He doesn't seem to have ever been a look-at-me kind of guy, but rather keep your head down and focus on the task at hand. That humility + grind + a little bit of chip on the shoulder has been a pretty successful combo. I think he's perfectly comfortable being an "over-achiever" versus an "under-achiever." All that suits me just fine, too. Go Dawgs!

Bennett was better than Bryce in the National Championship game. Wasn't even close. He was better than the michigan guy. Better than half the people on there top 25 list. He's within a 1/2 inch of Bryce Young's height. I get tired of the media hyping players. Until they play, they are an total unknown. Spencer R doesn't need to be on the list.

Unless something wonky happens this season, Bennett is gong to be, once again, one of the top 5 QBs in college football QBR-wise and wins-wise. Bennett likely doesn’t care so much about the media bias against him… he has a CFP champions’ ring and a Natty MVP award—the things that really count. Go Stetson! Go Dawgs! 😂

Look, Bennett is Bennett. He's exactly the way Smart designed the position to be - a game manager, short pass to the TEs type of system. He does a great job of that, but the whole intention is to NOT have your typical "gun slinger", "west coast offense" type of thing. So, yeah, he's not going to get the recognition because his job is not the spotlight in this system. That's just the way it is.

Granted, he didn't play all games (but DID get to play in Conference Playoff + 1st Playoff + 2nd Playoff), but here were his overall rankings in comparison to the position:

Total Yards: 44th (Young is 2nd)

    Completion %: 38th (Rattler is 1st, Rogers 2nd, Young is 21st)

    Avg Yards: 3rd

Total TDs: 16th (Young is 2nd)

INTs of 7 is very good, but: Young has the same 7 INTs but 47 TDs to Bennetts 29. Stroud has 44 TDs to 6 INTs. Pickett has 42 INTs to 7.

    Rating: 4th.

There's no reason to hate on Bennett, but lets face it - you guys gave him a B- (I believe) in the championship game. He wasn't the reason we won and that's 100% fine. But, if he's not the reason you win a game, then there's no reason to hype him up further than he needs to be. He's at his ceiling as a very solid 4 star player and will do a great job for us this year, but you can't argue that he's a NFL caliber player because he's not. That's fine, but quit talking about him.

Great comments. SB is comfortable in his own skin. He is an independent thinker and addresses issues head-on. Outsiders are pretty much irrelevant in his view. He knows what lies ahead, who he has to work with and what he has to accomplish to achieve his goal....another natty.

“Why does anybody who’s ever won something do it again? Because it’s cool,” Bennett said. “So, let’s go do it again. Let’s see if we’ve got what it takes.” That is a winning attitude.

Why do most fans always refer to Kirby Smart, when it comes to decisions regarding QBs? I highly doubt that Kirby Smart would micromanage to that extent, nor would he want to? He's been involved with the defensive side of the ball all his career. That's why he hired offensive coordinators. You can't honestly tell me that Kirby wouldn't allow Todd Monken to have any say in decisions concerning QBs. Kirby's all about "Team" mentality. That goes for players and coaches. I'm pretty sure that all coaches involved with the offense and QBs make these decisions together, as a team....for the benefit of the "Team," and not any individual. Otherwise, Todd Monken would have left GA already. He can pretty much go become the offensive coordinator for any other team out there, to include Bama. He's got a proven record both at the college and NFL level. The Justin Fields decisions had alot to do with Jim Cheney as well. Bottom line is, Kirby Smart has given GA fans plenty to be excited about in the past few years and for the foreseeable future. Be thankful and let the man coach.

I don't care how good our players are or how many championships we win, UGA will ALWAYS get slighted by the media.

The QB who lead the SEC's highest scoring offense (against SEC teams) finished No.4 in QBR, and helped his team win the National Championship, isn't getting any respect. Unreal!

Most objective post seen on Dawgnation in a long time. To be fair, if the author wants to remove Rattler's Western Carolina stat's for comparison he should remove SBIV's UAB stat's (10/12 288 5tds). A cupcake is a cupcake.

Most telling stat is SBIV's 7 int's in 287 attempts and Young's 7 int's in 547 attempts. Forcing the ball (lack of progressions?) has been SBIV's MO since day 1. Even when behind superior OL. Hopefully that will improve with another year of reps in the Monken O. Surprising considering SBIV had more starts at the college level prior to '21 than Young had pass attempts at the college level prior to '21.

UGA should be talented enough this season to go undefeated until the SECCG. By then many players will have more experience and be able to contribute/play winning football at many positions including QB.

Bennett is decidely NOT a mere game manager. I wish people would stop using that tired expression. The football analyst who came up with that idiotic term and those in the media who have propagated its over use did a great disservice to all those who follow the sport.

You seem to just be repeating stuff you have read somewhere… for example, Bennett throws one of the best long ball fades in the CFB. 😉

  • SmartsTheManSmartsTheMan Posts: 1,513 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

You're throwing out stats as if everything' apples to apples. Young had two of the best receivers in CFB. Bennett had an injury riddled receiving corps. Bennett still led the highest scoring offense in the SEC against SEC only teams. Bennett still had a higher QBR...

  • HemingweyHemingwey Posts: 3,898 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

He is getting much respect from many Georgia fans… just not those who rooted against him last year. Their egos won’t allow them to admit they got it wrong. 🤣

The whole JFields narrative needs to be put to bed once and for all. Anyone who saw JFromm play in '17 and '18 and JFields play in '18 could see Fromm was at the top of his game and Fields was not ready to start and lead a national contender. Had Fields come back for year 2 he would have beaten out Fromm ('19 career lows in comp %, TD's and QBR). He chose to leave for a guarantee rather than compete.

It is still puzzling why the staff didn't call more passing plays for Fields in '18. He had a beautiful 75 yd TD pass to MHardman and a higher QBR rating than Fromm in any of Fromm's 3 seasons at UGA. Heading off a QB controversy? Encouraged Fields to return and compete year 2?

Ironically his best chance to win a CFBNC was to stay at UGA.

You are speculating a lot. Just sayin’. However, no doubt Fields had potential, then he chickened out and went to a conference with no defenses… 😬
