This time last year the Dawg D was in rebuilding mode according to the “experts”. This year’s D may not be single digits good, but even if they average giving up 15 they’ll be championship quality and top five in the country
Bama is more likely to lose in the regular season than the Dawgs, so the Tide may be playing for their playoff lives again in Atlanta. It sure would be sweet if the Dawgs sent Saban home for the playoffs!
A few keys for the season. #1 injuries. Loss of even a few key players (Carter, Ringo, CSmith, TSmith, NSmith) ends the repeat bid.
Young defenders (especially DB's) need to grow up fast. Not only physically mature but KNOW the defense. Still see Davonte Smith running free down the sideline in 2OT. Young pass rushers, in rotation, will need to make an impact vs TN, MS St, and AL. UGA will need to rush the passer with a vengeance to allow young secondary to mature.
SBIV has got to improve his ball security, accuracy, knowledge of the O/progressions and big game meltdowns vs AL. How much is he capable of improving in his 6th year of CFB?
Most people predicting another AL/UGA SECCG. The winner makes the playoff. No guarantees for the loser.
The games that worry me the most are at KY and at Miss St. They may not have the talent that the Dawgs do, but are led by experienced QBs.
