Do you mean he flipped from Penn State to Georgia?
This is why I do not get hyped about commitments. These guys are young, under a lot of pressure and often easily influenced. The process is tough and mentally exhausting on them and now NIL adds another distraction to the process.
This will sound like a watered-down version of sour grapes, but it's not. His "backing off" is likely due to the Dawgs making room/roster management. Very similar to a couple of cycles ago when the OLB from Blessed Trinity, who had been a very early commit, suddenly decommitted and began looking elsewhere...I'm pretty sure he was being instructed to do this.
Kirby said he wanted kids at Georgia that's want to be there. If a kid decommits and wants to look at other options, then he don't want to be part of the program. Why commit to something you are not sure about. Georgia should not continue to recruit a kid after they decommits. They must move on and put efforts in other kids who dreams are to play college football above high school.
No clear path to playing time, and not patient, like Broderick Jones, who, perhaps, turned the Natty game Georgia's way when he took over at LT, freeing Jamaree Salyers to switch to RT and stopped Bama cold. Good things come to the patient, who work hard, learn and prepare themselves to step in when their number is called. This may be a win-win, Georgia opens a spot for someone to learn and play the Georgia way, and McElderry may get playing time on a team with no rings in prospect, and not be ready for Sunday play. With NILmoney dependent on PT, kids now looking for a fast track to starting. This is a loss to the program. This kid has 5* upside. Seems more difficult to recruit with the stockpile of talent already in Athens. Hopefully some highly ranked OL can still be recruited in this cycle.
Good luck at the Barn. It will be interesting to see who their next HC hires as O-Line Coach.

Well crap. I was hoping we'd have a guy named Ryqueze on our team.
It really doesn't matter to me at this point. GA will develop whomever they get, and will contend for National Championships year in and year out, going forward.....as long as Kirby Smart and Todd Monken are at GA.
"Searels has proven to be a popular and valuable asset for the Dawgs on the recruiting trail." How so, Jeff Sentell? Dawgs have 2 OL commits for 2023. Searels is not even ranked in the top 100 247Sports Recruiters in college football. Is this comment based on what you anticipate he will accomplish because he has not done much so far. I honestly believe that Searels can develop next level talent, but he has to get them to the program first.
KIds are so impatient these days. A commitment means so little.
It is the media effect. The kids are now addicted to social media and self-promotion. For too many it is all about "get the money, get the money, get the money." College Football has lost its "soul."
