Excellent Read Bill !! Thank You !! I tell you because of the “dirty” history with Auburn, their late hits, trying to commit homicide on A. Murray, turning fire hoses on our fans etc. I despise them on a level right at the Mud Lizards mark !! When I say despise please note that I mean greatly dislike, I don’t “Hate” anybody, especially over a game !! Sure hoping that the 2022/2023 campaign will be a Great year for the history books for our beloved Dawgs !! Go Dawgs !!
Great read, Bill. I was a kid, but I remember listening to the '71 AU vs UGA game, which kept us from being SEC champs and playing in the Sugar Bowl, probably, for a National Title. Another almost, from a program full of near misses. I spoke with Buck Belue at his book signing in Brunswick a month ago, and we agreed that had Erk stayed on for the '81, '82, and '83 seasons, UGA would almost surely have 3 more National Titles in our trophy case.
Bill, I sure do miss writers like you and Harley Bowers! Great article! Go Dawgs!
Heaven is a Place on Earth? Seriously, I’m still not over that. That was sarcasm, right?
I remember the First Five, particularly Horace King during that time, but as a kid I didn't even begin to appreciate what they were going through and what they ended up accomplishing. I would love to hear any more of your impressions of them from that time, Bill.
