ATHENS — The earth is moving beneath college football once again, and most would agree it’s for the better.

I hope the NCAA put some real thoughts on how to mitigate the open transfer portal. Unlike the NIL deals. Some form of implementation is needed to help school manage their rosters. I support athletes being able to choose a different school, but it must be during a certain time frame.

The "handwringing" over the TP has nothing to do with borderline scholarship players finding another scholarship. The handwringing is over teams like Alabama and aTm using NIL to cherry pick the best players off other teams to reload their rosters at any time.
Windows are a good 1st step to allow programs and coaches to manage their rosters and depth needs.
A 12 team playoff is a money grab. A 16 team playoff is a complete joke.
So the NCAA and the CFP committee have calmed down and come to their senses?
Oh NO! Tenn Tech or UMass, how do we decide?
Looking forward to a nice, ho-hum NFL-like regular season. Oh well, maybe the addition of 3 or 4 more playoff blowouts every year will make up for it.

The transfer portal is a great idea. It allows individuals the opportunity to seek out and take advantage of better opportunities to showcase their skill....even if said skills are purely a figment of their on imagination....freedom of choice is all American ! I'm glad to see some common sense enter by limiting the time frame. The fact of the matter is that every individual that enters the portal has admitted defeat....they, if only in their perception, were not going to receive the amount of playing time they thought they were due or earned so the answer is to jump ship and look for greener pastures. Sometimes in life it is necessary to cut your losses and try another opportunity...after all, life is a gamble and the best bet in the house is a bet on yourself ...with that said, I wish Jermaine Burton the very best, but I think he made a big mistake.

Agreed. However, the athletes you are talking about, amount to less than 1% of the crop. They aren't just looking at the athlete part, the student part is being given consideration here. Transferring once a year, does absolutely nothing to enhance your $100,000+ education. In fact, it has a distinct negative impact.
If you don't want to be a "student-athlete" anymore...Fine! You are "free" to take your wares to an NFL Team and tryout for one of their 53 roster spots or go play on one of their practice squads or go play Arena Football or USFL or, whatever. You don't have to be a "Student-Athlete".
If we're all "free" to seek out the best opportunities for ourselves and our kids...why is the Government fighting "Education Vouchers" that would allow a parent to take the State and Federal Money earmarked for their child's education (taxpayer dollars) and send their kids to the school of their choice? Aren't ALL children entitled to the same opportunities, regardless of age and venue? After all...we live in a "Free" Country, don't we?
You get 1 free transfer, after that, there are consequences. Just like anything else in life, you have to navigate your personal interests and choices through the minefield of "laws, rules and regulations". I got no problem with that, as long as the "laws, rules and regulations" are applied equally across the board. These young Adults are no exception to the rule.
FYI, example..."Bear Alexander" had to move to Florida, in order to play his Senior year of football @IMG. Why??? Because he wasn't allowed to transfer from one high school to another, within the State of Texas, without losing eligibility. That rule applies in most States.
Why is it okay for College kids to do what High School kids are prohibited from doing, with regard to transfer vs eligibility? Is this a precursor for kids to move around, from HS to HS within their State, in order to increase their exposure and Star-Rating? Maybe Stetson Bennet would have been a 4-star QB out of HS if he had been allowed to shop around for the best HS to display his particular talent.
