Yards before contact in the run game is the stat that makes or breaks the Dawg offense. Stets can really help by hitting the open receivers we have gotten behind the defense. If there’s no threat to take the top off the defense, there’s no reason to not stack the box. Five or six blocking eight turns almost every run into “tough” yards.
“Georgia ran for 292 yards against Auburn and followed that up with 192 yards on the ground against Vanderbilt. Even with Kendall Milton missing most of those games, Georgia has found a way to get things going on the ground game”.
In my opinion, instead of making this write up seem like Georgia’s run game did well in spite of Kendall Milton being hurt, why not say something like:
Since Kendall Milton’s injury, the tandem of Daijun Edwards and Branson Robinson has improved the overall rushing ability of this team. Maybe…just maybe, Daijun and Branson have greater vision and are more shifty and difficult to tackle than Kendall and that’s why there is an overall uptick in our team rushing ability. Seems like we’ve been a better team when those two guys are on the field more often. That’s just my opinion of the situation. But I’ve been saying that about Daijun since day one. Maybe the offensive line, which is definitely one of the best in the country, enjoys blocking for those 2 runners as evidenced in the total yards gained.
The SEC's five representatives were Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee. The other teams honored were Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Penn State, Air Force, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Kansas State, Notre Dame, South Alabama, Syracuse, Texas, Oregon and UAB.
The Dawg's O-line play has gotten better, but we've still got some real improvement to do to make it to the playoffs.
“I think we can be more consistent in the run game, but we have to do better. There’s still stuff that we need to fix.”
This is exactly what you want to hear from a group that’s loaded with talent, playing well, but not playing up to their potential. They are not satisfied with their body of work up to this point in the season, and they’re looking to play at a higher level going forward. This could be bad news for the opposing DL’s.

The UGA OL has had some major issues running the ball consistently. The OL struggled mightily vs MO in both run and pass situations. Not Joe Moore Award worthy yet. MAYBE having this goal will help them focus on technique and execution on every snap.
MI seems likely to repeat based on the success they've experienced so far.
Here's to hoping the line will dominate the LOS, eat lots of clock with long sustained drives and limit the possessions of UT. Pair that with the defense having a plan to contain UT's passing game. Don't want this to be like the Bama game and turn into a shootout....
Hopefully, our line will be the most dominant Power Five school throughout the rest of the season. It will bode well as far as winning is concerned, and where winning the award is concerned. If the are, we should be able to run is down the gator's throat, and handle every team we play for the rest of the year - including the opponent in National Championship Game. GO DAWGS!!!
IMO...The so-called "troubles" they had in the running game and various other areas, were a manufactured product of Smart and Monkin calling a conservative power game. They got away from the things they knew would succeed and called relatively conservative plays, that didn't go to their consistent playmakers of last year. Not very many passes into the End Zone, to Bowers, Washington or McConkey...unlike the 1st 3 games of the season.
Smart actually schemed a game plan, in the Samford, Missouri, Auburn and the 1st half of the Vandy game,, that would take the hype off of UGA and improve their depth and experience, across the board, in the process.
They'll make a good run at the final 5 teams using the offense, used against Oregon. A tanker full of Rat Poison is waiting for UGA and TENN, in November. Which of those two teams will be more prepared to handle it.
I think UGA could've crushed every team they've played, this year. But, to what end? How many times over the years, have you seen a team like OSU, BAMA or OKLA crush everybody in their path, only to lose to one of their Rivals in a close game, due to overconfidence or inability to run the ball inside when necessary or missed FG, cause the FG kicker hasn't been called on to make a clutch kick, in 2 years.
Smart KNOWS what he's doing...and so do I. They might be missing a couple of pieces from the Oregon game, but, they've gained enough experience over the last few games to offset the loss.
Preseason's over. The Dawgs will be locked in, from here on out.
