Oh good grief. Let me give you one name: Jaxon Smith-Njiba. You like Brock Bowers? Well he is just as good. Imagine if UGA had to play the entire season without Brock Bowers. Still be undefeated?

Well that is Ohio State's plight. The hamstring injury that he suffered against Notre Dame turned out to be a season-ending injury. So the kid went from battling Jordan Addison for being the #1 WR taken - and in the top 5 at that - to having 5 catches for 43 yards for the season. So these "adversarial sportswriters" who hyped up Ohio State ... how were they supposed to know that Smith-Njiba wasn't going to play against Ohio State?

Alabama? More of the same. Tyler Harrell is no Smith-Njiba but he was supposed to be their deep threat. He got hurt preseason. Nick Saban spent the entire season claiming that Harrell was fine, would surely play in a week or two and would be playing today if we really needed him. Instead - again - 2 catches for 18 yards. Result? Alabama is 2 plays away from being 12-0 and headed for a game-of-the-century showdown in Atlanta (not the SEC title game but the national title game rematch in January).

So for this Brandon Adams to claim "Ohio State and Alabama obviously were never that good" ... wrong. Because Ohio State WITH Jaxon Smith-Njiba gives that Ohio State offense three 1000 yard receivers. That's right. Marvin Harrison Jr. (son of the Syracuse college hall of famer and Indianapolis Colts NFL hall of famer) gets 1000 yards at Z. Smith-Njiba gets 1000 yards at X. And Emeka Egbuka gets 1000 yards in the slot. Add that to RB Miyan Williams (who also missed the Ohio State game) and RB TreyVeon Henderson (also injured and only had 8 carries) and it honestly had the potential to be the best offense in college football history since the 1995 Nebraska team that beat Florida 62-24 (and this was with their basically taking most of the 4th quarter off ... they could have easily scored 80 ... mind you this was a Gators defense that had tons of future NFL players on it).

Ohio State's NFL depth chart at WR against a UGA team that has real issues in the secondary (at both CB and safety) and has been inconsistent in rushing the passer would have been a real challenge. Ohio State would have definitely scored points, and we would have gotten to see Stetson Bennett in a scoring match of the sort that he has never had to win. (Please. No comparing Tennessee to Ohio State. Tennessee runs Ohio State's scheme, but with 3 star recruits like Jalin Hyatt where Ohio State has 5 star ones like Harrison Jr.

UGA had a historically good defense last year and won a title. We thought that Ohio State was going to have a historically good offense. But hey, you tell me if UGA would have won a title last year if Jordan Davis barely plays. And if Davis and Nakobe Dean miss the title game outright, and Lewis Cine only plays the 1st quarter. That is the equivalent of what Ohio State went through this year without their best player on offense - yes, I believe that Smith-Njiba is more likely to pan out in the NFL than CJ Stroud - and critical stretches (including the Michigan game) with their top 2 RBs missing or injured.
