Alabama coordinator moves on, Georgia Co-DC Glenn Schumann rumored candidate
ATHENS — Pete Golding is leaving the Alabama defensive coordinator position to assume the same post at Ole Miss, leading many to speculate on who might replace him in Tuscaloosa.
Comments
He’s young enough to bide his time til Nick retires but Nick has been burning though Assistants at a frantic pace. If our LB coach is a rising star as some have said he might move into Schumann’s place.
A lateral move for him is not a good idea.
Coach Todd Hartley is waaay underpaid!
Oh, Coach Schu say it ain’t so!!
I see Coach Muschamp being the one most likely to move on (after his son graduates) which would leave it all to Coach Schu!
Saban would also be more likely to hire Pruitt than Coach Schu anyway….
at least I hope…..
Go Dawgs!
Interesting to go from Bama to Ole Miss. Something isn’t right with that. Sounds like problems in Bama land.
OK no sarcasm on my part at all. Just being realistic. University of Georgia please PAY these coaches !! Please pay them NOW !! There’s No Way that the powers at UGA can say with any validity that they can’t afford to pay up after having just won B2B Nattys !! SO pony up the $$$ and At Least make it extremely difficult for these coaches to Want to leave UGA. And here’s the thing the $$$ are just starting to flow into UGA !! The revenue from these TWO Nattys will be Huge as the months go by !! HUGE !! Now this said I realize in Some cases it won’t be all about $$. Some assistant coaches will want to go else where to be a HC or a Coordinator. And be able to do their own thing. But if there are situations where they can be promoted from within, then Please Do So. And any other legal benefits. These Coaches are a Huge part of why UGA has had so much success. The last thing in the world we need is for them to go over to the enemy !! Before I read this article I was talking with my wife about so what if Saban got the number one recruiting class, he still doesn’t have the coaches to develop them. He will if he gets his grubby little mitts on some of our Coaches !! So there’s a two fold reason for the powers at UGA to pony up the Big $$$ !! Let’s hope they do !! Go Dawgs !!
UGA should give ALL the Coaches a Significant pay raise AND have a provision for a Huge bonus if they can do a Threepeat !! And the $100K bonus to Monken is chump change for what he’s done for the Dawgs !! They should at least double that !! UGA please don’t go back to the Being Thrifty days like with CMR. No one will ever know if he could’ve done better with more $$$ coming to the program, but that Thrifty ideology sure didn’t Help him any either !! We All know that winning these two championships is gonna bring in Tons of $$ for UGA. Can you imagine what a Threepeat would do ??!!?? Kirby is trying to build a dynasty at UGA. And he’s doing an Excellent job of it. But it takes invested $$, Big $$ !! That’s a large part of how Bama got where their at. I know, I know, Tons of $$ have been and are now being spent on the stadium and player facilities. And as a Dawgs fan I’m grateful for that. I really am. But don’t let up off the throttle at this point !! Keep it floored !! Dawgs pull off a Threepeat you’ll Much More than get your investment back !!
Please don't leave us coach! You're in a great place now!
GO DAWGS!
I didn't know that Coach Schumann was an AL grad. This is a no brainer for AL. An AL grad. A top rated DC. Trained by both CNS and CKS. Taking a valuable piece from major rival UGA. CNS will make this happen.
This is not good for UGA. But good for Schumann. A few years being trained by CNS and Schumann will be 1st in line to take over for Saban at AL. I don't think Schumann can say no to that possibility.
This is not a lateral move. His salary will double and there will be no "co -DC" title.
Your probably right. But the folks in charge at UGA should offer him enough $$ to make it mighty hard to leave !! And as I said in my other comments, in addition a Big bonus to him and All the coaches for a Threepeat !! The one good thing is I’m very confident that NS ain’t the easiest guy to work with. If Schumann does go ever there with the “Kirby thinking” still in his head, maybe, hopefully, it’d create some controversy between him and ole Nick. Cause we all know NS has an ego bigger than the Titanic !! But I fully agree it won’t be good at all for UGA in many ways. I Hope UGA will at least try to tempt him into staying. But if he goes, he goes. Just have to try to work around it. Price of success.
Austin Armstrong is who Saban wants, not coach Shu, Feldman is FOS
From a money, immediate prospects position, I thought the exact same thing. At the same time, if something is comparable on that level, and something like closer to home, family, etc., there's not really a sacrifice. With that said, though, one would think that any coordinator position at AL would bring in more money than an equivalent position at pretty much any other school in the West. If that isn't the case, there's a problem. If money, but culture is the issue, there's still an issue. Really, the only thing that I can think of (and I think I'm a pretty creative guy) that holds any water, and isn't related to money or integrity, is family. That's the catch, though; after a certain point, when we've marked off parallels, it's all just speculation.
ALLLLLLLLL that aside... I do hope CGS sticks around. He and Muschamp seem to be a solidly-well-balanced force for our overall defense.
As he claimed just a short while ago that he was returning it may not have been his decision.
I should have gotten into coaching.
